What exactly is it, natural gas? Where can I find propane? Can I use those cylinders on a BBQ or something western-bought which requires propane?
No its cooking gas, which is a mix of propane and butane.

Hmmmm, so if I have something which is supposed to run on propane, better to not use them, correct? Or does it have no effect?

What is the mechanical difference in the cooker? Is there any? It's not like a petrol engine which would falter on diesel after a while, is it? Maybe just marketing in the country of origin?
I thought all you need is flammable domestic gas, a valve and a starter switch (igniter).Don't all gas cookers work on the same principle?

Yeah, you're just running gas through a valve and burning it, doesn't matter what it is. You could use pure methane if you wanted.vladimir wrote:What is the mechanical difference in the cooker? I was trying to make a burning your farts joke, I guess my sense of humor is too juvenile for you.BirdBrain wrote:You're an ignorant fool ChicagoGuy. Methane (generally sold as Natural Gas) and Propane (LPG) have vastly different properties and are not interchangeable using the same burners. You WILL create an explosive hazard using the incorrect gasses for the burner.ChicagoGuy wrote:Yeah, you're just running gas through a valve and burning it, doesn't matter what it is. So methane and LPG have different qualities, but I never heard of anyone using methane to cook.
But do the different commercial cooking gases have such different vastly qualities that they require a different mechanism?
The only other (non-cooking) gas one I know of that requires a separate mechanism is oxy-acetaline, but then we are talking about cutting/welding?

Just to clarify, natural gas is actually a mixture of methane, propane and other gases, it is not pure methane. Apparently the main issue between using natural gas and propane is a difference in pressure and flow rate.

BB, sometimes, just sometimes, when people don't know the answer, they ASK someone.Like I did here. If people who didn't know things didn't ask questions on 440, what would the brilliant, highly educated, articulate people like you do all day?BirdBrain wrote:That is because you are also ignorant of facts, although this has never stopped you from posting before.Vladimir wrote:So methane and LPG have different qualities, but I never heard of anyone using methane to cook.
I did notice that you quoted from Wikipedia, and the TLC website which means that you also had to look.
Anyway, thanks for doing the research for us.I'm too lazy to do it myself.
PS: The forum is called QUESTIONS and answers.I wonder why? Random name?

I guess I'll have to ask if the bbq I want to buy can work with natural gas or just propane. The guy told me propane but maybe with a different valve or model or something...
