Best book on Cambodian history
Best book on Cambodian history
Any suggestions for a descriptive narrative of the history of the country? I'm not looking for solely Khmer Rouge era but earlier than that...maybe beginning with stuff on the Khmer Empire and eventually taking the reader through the Khmer Rouge period.
Cantankerous Curmudgeon
David Chandler's A history of Cambodia would be one of the obvious choices.
For a "first-hand account of the civilization of Angkor" I'd recommend A record of Cambodia : The land and it's people
I don't really have that many books on older Khmer history, so these two are the ones I would recommend.

I've no idea what the best book is but try and get Michael Vickery's book on pre- Angkor Cambodia.
Although it does focus more on recent history I really recommend this book which is a great read: Cambodia’s Curse: The Modern History of a Troubled Land by Joel Brinkley.
I like joels book too.
Go to bohrs books for the cheapest copies and a good selection.

Where's Bohrs books, and, do they even have that book inside of Cambodia? I'd have thought the powers that be would ban it.ken svay wrote:I like joels book too.
