Good point, even if Canadia aren't charging you there are probably fees from the other side. They had notices at Canadia machines a year or so back saying there was a charge of $3 or so for foreign cards, it doesn't make much sense for them to do it for free.
the only fee i incurred was $2.50 which i think is a visa fee and which i would have incurred if i had have withdrawn anywhere else...the bank being ING..don't know about the exchange rate though...

As for bank ripoffs,I was informed by several people (ABA bank manager included) that if I open up an account here I would be able to transfer money from OZ using "internet banking",well having opened an account here with ABA and contacting my bank in Australia was informed that can only transfer funds using "international bank transfer @ $30 per transaction So all was a waste of time,as might as well just use an ATM (Canadia) which cost me in OZ $28 per transaction, drawing out $600.

Update. After trying Cambodia Public bank 2 times and without the machine even taking more than a few seconds to tell me my withdraw of $1000 (a choice on the main menu) exceeded the limit, which was not from my bank, I decided to check out Union Commercial Bank located on st. 130/13 across from the military police station. I just remembered it the other day and sure enough 2 years later they raised it from $2.00 to $3.00 but it was a slam dunk. For those in the riverside area, here could be your ATM of choice!
Thanks guys.

I couldn't find ATM's locations on their web site. Anyone know if there are any Canadia ATM's near Russian Market that I haven't noticed?

The closest Canadia ATM to the Russian Market that I know of is in the Tela gas station on MTT Blvd. They also have a Cambodian Public Bank ATM in there too.

I have an account with HSBC in the UK. They know I'm an expat and have a service where I pay them an annual fee of 50 GBP ($80 bucks right?) for withdrawing from ATM's world-wide and I don't get charged these local fees wherever I am in the world. Clearly I still pay, but I only pay once and I can withdraw cash as many times as I want. Next time you're home, pay a visit to your bank and see what's available.

What about HSBC fees as a % per transaction or does the £50 cover it?

I've mentioned before that you can get a Charles Schwab account in the U.S. and Schwab charges not ATM fees and also reimburses any ATM fees charged by any other bank or business establishment worldwide. Including ridiculously high strip club ATM fees.

Probably make up some profit from the exchange rate.

@Dutchie This is true. This is one way how banks make money. No banks will allow you to do international transfer using internet bank.... I read once on a forum that it's (sometimes) possible to send money to yourself using paypal.... https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/Scratch that...you CANNOT send money to yourself through Papal.... well...not to Cambodia..... https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c ... er-outside
