How were you actually married? If just the ceremony, legally you're not married. If the legal part was done by your commune chief and the pair of you can sort out finances etc amicably, it can be done for a couple hundred bucks in a couple of days at the local level. If you've registered the marriage with your home country's embassy, and/or you're fighting over assets/children, then it gets murky and you need legal representation.
I came, I argued, I'm out
I'm pretty sure it can be done at the local Sangkat where the marriage was initially registered.
And now I am dying to know who it is. Sunsan, jm, vlad, dengchao, Aia, KL, LTO? Binky? Me?
More seriously, I am genuinely sorry to hear that. I have been there, so I know it's not easy. My understanding from a previous thread is that you need to go to your local sangkat. I hope you are fluent in Khmer if that's the case. I guess depending on whether you have any kids or assets in common it will be more or less difficult. Good luck whatever happens.

A tree born crooked will never grow straight.
Yes, married legally at the commune hall.
No complications re my embassy, no kids, no big money, nothing to argue about but the fridge and TV.andyinasia wrote:it can be done for a couple hundred bucks in a couple of days at the local level.

O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven
Article 39 clearly tabulates the grounds for divorce as of the following:
1. desertion without a good reason and without maintenance of and taking care of the child;
2. cruelty and beatings, persecutions and looking down on the other spouse or his or her ancestry;
3. immoral behavior, bad conduct;
4. impotence of penis; and
5. Physical separation for more than one year.
I'm not sure how to link a PDF to this forum, but if you search for ( 'law on the marriage and family" cambodia ) you should find the full PDF. Article 38 and on deals with divorce.
Sorry to hear the bad news. All the best.

Good advice, but he's broke.
Then again, as Rod Stewart said, why don't I just buy a woman I don't like an expensive house?

#2 bit tough on tall people.
LP is coming from a perspective of a contentious divorce where the barang will have to pay for a good lawyer to protect his assets; if the couple have nothing to argue over, might as well just give the fridge to the commune chief and be done with it. Actually I think you still need to get a form off a lawyer but it should cost $50.
