Good evening everyone,
I have been reading the topics in this forum, and thoroughly enjoy doing so.
Currently I am working in Sydney, Australia. I am 23yrs old, male and have previously taught English for one year in Bangkok and Udon Thani.
As many of you can probably understand I am getting bored and restless with the rather mundane way of life here in Australia and want to get out of here as soon as possible!
I have some questions, and yes - I know these may have been asked a great many times. They are as follows:-
1. What is it like teaching English in Cambodia?
2. How would you compare it to teaching English in Thailand?
3. Do they require a degree (in any field) or a TEFL? Is it a big obstacle should one not possess any of these items?
4. Salary. Do the schools / agencies "forget" to pay you at the end of the month?
5. Is it easy to get employed? Hrs per week etc...
6. I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy going out and having a good time. From reading this website, I think this is definitely possible in Cambodia, correct?
8. Lastly, and most importantly: MONEY. What would be the minimum amount of cash I would need as soon as I got off the plane to tie me over until I get a job?
If anyone could provide any answers to some/all of these questions, I would greatly appreciate it. I am seriously thinking about just "dropping everything" over here and going for it!!
Thanks once again,
Mark

Western University, in distant Toul Kok, are always recuiting unqualified non-native speakers. Or you could try SITC.Mhayd1982 wrote:3. Do they require a degree (in any field) or a TEFL? Is it a big obstacle should one not possess any of these items?
Barely. On a teacher's salary, assuming you're a mindless barcoded drone at SITC or somesuch shithole, you will either work 45 hours a week and spend all your free time burned out or make so little that you'll only be able to afford a few beers and a few cheap tarts a month.6.
