Help: Hiring a minivan in phnom penh

Postby hudson hawk » Tue Aug 14, 2012 6:50 pm

I am based in Siem Reap and want to move to mondolkiri to escape the heat and trashy tourists.

I have managed to find a van with driver to hire for the trip siem reap to phnom penh to move all my possessions and business equipment.

Does anyone know of a place where I can hire a minivan in phnom penh?

Canvassing options (1) With driver; or (2) without driver, and would an international drivers license suffice.

1. Don't use a minivan, rent a flatbed truck plus tarpaulin.

2. Under no conditions drive yourself, asking for trouble.

Ask a Khmer friend to arrange it, state before moving that movers will be held responsible for loss/breakage/clarify liability.
People who steal from banks get jail. Banks who steal from people get bonuses. You gotta love capitalism!

International drivers license is not enough, you need a local one. To obtain that, you need the international one.
Costs: Some $45.00, you can do that through Lyna. Takes some 2-3 weeks, though you can get a temporary one, right away. A local drivers license is for foreigners valid for 1 year.

So, if you only need it once, better hire a driver. Minivan wo driver costs only slightly less then one with a driver and with additional insurances, etc maybe even more.

Wrong.
International licences are a load of shit.To get a khmer licence one needs only a licence from you home country.Lucky lucky moto is the best deal, about $35,temporary licence the next day, plastic card on a few weeks.

Sure, a home country one, english (-alike) probably would be fine. Though, try that with a cyrilic one.

Does LL also do car drivers licenses, or only moto ones ?
