Drywall construction?
Just curious... even this villa is cement and brick, do drywall/insulation constructed houses even get built here?
If so where does one go to purchase it?
If not, is there a specific reason other than "we always do it this way"?

What are you referring to as Dry Wall Construction ?
I'm guessing it has different meanings in different Countries.
In Oz ( Victoria to be more specific ) we have 1,000 of klm of Dry Wall construction in the farming districts that have been cut /shaped out of local stone to fit the next stone and all tied together without the use of cement ?
Is this what you are referring too ?

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

no, i meant drywall... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drywall
plasterboard, wallboard, gypsum board, sheet rock... etc. i mean the western (or at lease american... not sure about the rest) construction practice of this being the interior of the wall, followed by a layer of insulation (on exterior walls), and then a sheet of plywood as the exterior all supported by a 2"x 4" beam (not sure how these equate in metric) frame. plywood is then usually covered with some shingle tile, siding, etc to provide a weather resistant and visually appealing exterior.

seems like something like this would be cheaper to manufacture than all of the heavy cement and brick here... though it does take a bit more skill. just wondered why you don't see it more.drywall construction, a type of construction in which the interior wall is applied in a dry condition without the use of mortar. It contrasts with the use of plaster, which dries after application.
The materials used in drywall construction are gypsum board, plywood, fibre-and-pulp boards, and asbestos-cement boards. The large, rigid sheets are fastened directly to the frame of the building with nails, screws, or adhesives or are mounted on furring (strips of wood nailed over the studs, joists, rafters, or masonry, which allow free circulation of air behind the interior wall).

Drywall doesnt last so well in humid climates.. Even seen termites or ants eat the paper off the sheetrock so it just crumbled.. I am sure witht he right materials and prep it could be done well.. But the building styles tend to strongly stick to the materials they know.
They tend to stick to using it for suspended ceilings..

makes sense. was wondering about the humidity as a reason already... i know i'n some areas of the US even they have to use specially treated drywall for that reason (missouri being one of them).
there's probably a way around it for every issue... but then it becomes the "is it worth it" factor.
and there's def an upside to the limited amount of skill required to do the khmer pillar and brick design. mostly i just hate needing a hammer drill and an anchor to hang a picture, lol.

Ok.
I'm sort of understanding what you're asking.
I think ReilLove answered your question.
Plasterboard / gypsum is not suitable for high humidity areas, hence concrete rather than gypsum is used in these environments.
Please give a bit more info about what you want to do/build so answers can be more specific to climate and conditions.

i was just inquiring, i have not structures in mind in the near present... though i had considered using 2"x1" slats and making another layer of wall in my office on top of the concrete. just to have more mobiliy with my witeboard/etc without having to always bust out the hammer drill.

In between reading your reply and posting mine several other replied appeared.
OK, in most countries you can purchase " Standard" Gyprock sheet's and particle floor boards.
- OR-
You can purchase an upgraded material for WET Zones such as bathrooms - which in simple layman terms says that it functions in a humidity level of "x" ?? whereas your standard Gyprock sheets or flooring does not meet this standard.
If you can find a place that brings in stuff from Viet you might find what you are looking for.

right, in the US we just call them treated and untreated. though treated will still mold if left to sit with too much moisture for too long.
same deal with plywood and beams as well.

It boils down to cost, stud walls are cheaper at home because labour costs matter much more than material costs, here it's the other way around. Brick, cement and plaster are superior to stud walls in every way, insulation, sound proofing, durability, you name it. So when there's not that much difference in the cost it's a no brainer.

you think brick is superior to fiberglass insulation for insulation and sound? i thought it was the other way around.

Agreed.. Would have thought both temperature insulation and sound would have been better on a drywall than single skin cinder block.

what they use here isn't cinder block, it's clay brick.
