Hello esteemed 440ers,
I am looking to rent a 2+ room apartment in Phnom Penh in April and onwards. Any information would be greatly appreciated. The price range I am willing to spend would be $150 to $225. Central location preferred.
The reason: planning to leave Bangkok before the (choose one) riots/revolution/civil war/coup d'etat starts after the snap election on April 2nd here in Thailand.
Regards,
Moonpie

Easiest way is to enlist the help of local 'real estate agents'. You tell them the specifics of what you want, and they do the riding arund for you. Theyet to keep the first months rent as a finders fee. It is in their best interest to get a hih price for this reason, so you will have to bargain down the price, or just insist they buy more furnishings or other extras to include in the price.
Alternatively you may find someone here who answers your request, or you can just ride around yourself. Drive through all the streets looking for the signs that say "For Rent"... there are many. You may want to take an english speaking moto driver with you if you do this. I find this hot and bothering though, and I speak Khmer.
When you arrive, PM me, and I can give you the addresses of 4-5 different real estate agents. Get them all working for you at the same time.
The trick is when they show you a house you dont like, tell them exactly what you dont like, and what you do like. Eventually they learn what you are looking for. If you dont dothis theyjust keep showing you crap houses.

Here, in no particular order, are links to websites of a bunch of real estate agents. Some of them have pictures of the properties and everything. Many of these prices are inflated, but you should get a rough idea. Have fun.

The third link has a "PP Area code" map which will explain the abbreviations for different areas that all the realtors use.
I think New Admin should consider making an "Accommodation in Cambodia" section of this board, where people can discuss available properties, properties wanted, good agents, bad agents, hotels, guesthouses, crazy landlord stories, crazy neighbor stories, etc.
