I'm currently in the process of sponsoring my husband. Just wondering if anyone knows what goes on during the interview. I've heard of people getting their applications rejected for extremely lame reasons that arise from the interview-kinda makes me nervous.
aussie spouse visa
Yeah...... Lame reasons like brothers marrying their own sister in sham marriages to get them to Oz - thank god for DNA testing. If you are legitimately married you shouldn't have an issue. Check your PM.

The interview process is nothing to worry about.
At the interview, there will be your husband, an embassy official, and an interpreter.
When my (ex) wife was interviewed, the interviewer was very kind to her, and treated her in a gentle way. The Khmer interpreter also encouraged her not to be nervous. Do not perceive the interview process as a difficult and gruelling task. It really is just a socialable chat. You can assure your husband that he as no reason to be nervous.
He can feel free to speak in Khmer or English. Obviously the more English he uses the better, but it is also important that if is unsure of the english words that he speak in Khmer and just let the translator do his job. It is better that your husband clearly communicates his feelings and thoughts, rather than try and impress the embassy with his English skills.
The most important thing is to TELL THE TRUTH. If you stick to this rule, then you will not have a problem.
Sometimes people are embarrassed about something, so they dont tell the truth about it... it might be something small... like how you first met. Don't lie because you are embarrased about something.
The officials can smell a lie like a fart in an elevator. Keep in mind that if you are caught lying during your interview not only will you be denied a visa, but you are also denied the opportunity to ever apply for one again. Its really simple... tell the truth and everything will be ok.
Make sure you go to the interview with your husband. you will not be allowed in the interview room, and you will not be interviewed, but it is important for them to see that you are supporting him.
On the day of my wife's interview, I was not able to get the day off work, so she had to go to the embassy by herself. My wife's visa was denied the first time (approved second time around), and in the report it was noted that i did not accompany her to the interview. I didn't think it was such a big deal, since obviously I had work committments, but the embassy obviously thought it did.
Make sure that you do not say anything in the interview that is in contrast to what you have already put in your application, as they heavily srutinise the application compared too the tapescripts of the interview looking for disparities.
If you haven't lied this wont be a problem. Even still, it's easy to get the number of years you have known each other for wrong if you are nervous, and this could cost you your visa. So, read over the information you submitted in your application many times before going to the interview.
Check your PM for a few more helpful thoughts....
GOOD LUCK!
