Drivers License
I've tried to get my head around the drivers license issues here, but have a few questions still...
1) Is the license you get from a place like Lucky Lucky the exact same as you get elsewhere (i.e. like the driving lesson / testing places that seem to be all over)? I read about 1 year license, vs 5 years licenses, etc. What's the deal?
2) Is a letter from the Sangkat always a requirement now? Just wondering if it's worth trying without first, before going through that potential pain in the ass.
Thanks

If like your name says you are in holiday in Kh, I think you can't have a driver license anymore.holidayinkh wrote:I've tried to get my head around the drivers license issues here, but have a few questions still...

Otherwise, 5 years is for people going threw the test, 1 year is for foreigners who shows up with a valid homeland license.
You need some kind of proof of long staying, maybe your apartment contract I'm not sure about that.
Anyway no driver license = no insurance. So you really need to do it.

On a related point, l recall some low level hysteria on some other thread about the Cambodian government ceasing to issue licences to foreigners (or at least make the process more difficult).
I can say without question that is bollocks.
It couldnt be easier to get one.

I don't expect the expire status to be of a problem, though you'll have to try that, just ask.thombarang wrote:G"day....

That would be great, though a couple of months ago, it wasn't possible, not even the big money way.Petrol Head wrote:Succinct and helpful.OSS 117 wrote: 5 years is for people going threw the test, 1 year is for foreigners who shows up with a valid homeland license.

Explain how you do so, though please note, for renewals nothing changed, only for first time Cambo licenses.

Renewals are no problem. New ones are the challenged ones.thombarang wrote:i guess i will find out when my Cambo license expires in a few months...

- I want to make sure that my insurance covers the possibility that I'm injured whilst driving whilst in country on my next visit.
I've always taken public transport for major distances in the past and only driven bikes for a few days here and there when I stopped off in Kep/Kampot, Battambang and a few other places I forget the name of, this time I want to spend 3 wks plus on a bike wandering where ever I end up need to make sure I'm covered by my insurance Company if something goes arse up.
