I'm bloody hooked on the stuff right now. Can't get enough of the rancid stuff.
I've noticed recently a few vendors position themselves near the Independence Monument in the early evening, and all of them have carry the same price tag of 6000 riel. But what is the 6000 for? A kilo? If so, that seems ridiculous cheap.
Durian

That would be really cheap, unless it's the smaller fruits with relatively loads of skin and little fruit. These are sold at much lower prices.scobienz wrote:I'm bloody hooked on the stuff right now. Can't get enough of the rancid stuff.

A good big fruit will do anything between 10.000-15.000 / kilo depending on location.
The price of the Durian will depend on where it is grown. Not unlike Cambodian pepper which it good, and grown everywhere, the best pepper in Kampot, and costs more. Scobie, do ask the seller to point to No1, No2, No3, as all the durian not same same. Buy Kampong Cham durian. The Best.

Doesn't the season also affect the price? If I'm not mistaken it's durian season now, so it's the best time for both price and quality.
Correct, but still 6000 is to cheap for a kilo of really good durian....prahocalypse now wrote:Doesn't the season also affect the price? If I'm not mistaken it's durian season now, so it's the best time for both price and quality.
Maybe if you pick the fruit from the tree yourself it's the price, but @ Wat Phnom?

there's a fruit shop on the corner of 294 opposite Joma on Norodom that had some good quality looking ones, seemed popular with the locals.
