My khmer friends youngest daughter is the first of seven kids to finish high school and now, having twice failed the test, must seek an alternative to university.
What is available in the way a trade school ?

She can still go to university. Look at the Staff Room section. She will need to do a 2 year Associate degree first. But get in quickly, I have a feeling they will plug this loophole soon.

Trade/vocational courses are the responsibility of the Ministry of Labour. Check their website.vladimir wrote:She can still go to university. Look at the Staff Room section. She will need to do a 2 year Associate degree first. But get in quickly, I have a feeling they will plug this loophole soon.

Yes, I know, I thought he would prefer her to get into university.
Personally, there are many times I wish I had become a mechanic.

Don Bosco provide training in a variety of vocational subjects. Last time I looked they were listed on their website. But, yes, students need to be from poor backgrounds and they are quite strict about this (going on my one experience of placing a student there).

Her being the first of seven kids to finish school would suggest a poor family, don't you think? No harm in the op checking out Don Bosco though
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Certainly no harm in checking out. However, I think that they are looking for kids with options that are limited due to their financial situation. This kid's options are limited due to her lack of academic ability / achievement rather than a lack of cash.

Associate degrees and Vocational Certificates require completion of Grade 9 to enroll and this is not likely to change soon as it part of the national qualifications framework governing all school and post school institutions. If you failed Grade 12 then you must have passed Grade 9 by definition and are eligible to enroll, it just might be more competitive this year.
