Nobody said it did. That was just to give some perspectives while awaiting for someone to share what they know about how things work in the US.LoneStar wrote:With all due respect.......they way things proceed for the French or Europeans does not have any bearing on the policies of American immigration.
Pregnant Khmer girlfriend, help or hinder visa?
After my wife got approved I got an email recruiting us to apply for what I presume was this show. They must have found my info from the visa forum/website I mentioned previously. From reading the discussions on some visa related forums the income/support issue comes up a lot. You would have to be broke to think it's a good idea to add the TV cameras/show in the adjustment process. Had I known 8,000 an episode I may have gave it much more thought though.gavinmac wrote:Have you ever watched "90 Day Fiance" on the TLC channel? You can download both seasons off itunes, it's a great show. Most of the Americans importing foreign wives and husbands on that show were broke and I think they needed co-sponsors.
The use of savings/assets to sponsor a fiancee is permitted by most embassies, there are some embassies that will not accept it, they have a formula published somewhere to determine if you have enough savings to sponsor. Also, some embassies don't allow co-sponsors for a fiancee visa. AFAIK Cambodia allows both.

Yes, I noticed that a lot of the people on the show who are bringing in foreign wives/husbands seem to be broke and/or living with their parents (or living with old lesbian roommates in one case).

What is Jessi doing giving immigration advice? Maybe going through the process herself with MM?
It seems to me she as entitled as you are to make useless comments.
Everyone is unique. You should not say that to the others. People have feeling.

Or even most expat fathers...but as nobody would write a story about the banal, not surprising that one doesn't see articles about it either in newspapers or on the interwebs.scobienz wrote:I don't know why people are calling him an idiot for getting her pregnant. They know nothing of the dynamics of the relationship and from the tone of the OP's posts he seems genuinely happy and is looking forward to the birth of their first child, even to the point of travelling back to Cambodia to be here for the birth.
It's good to see he cares. Not all expat fathers are the deadbeats we often read about.

Sounds like a long wait unless the child's job is being a beggar baby.gavinmac wrote: then the OP goes back to America a few months after the child is born and starts working
Logos let's have a pissing comp. Lets count how many useless comments you have made and compared to mine. I give up - you win.
I am going through this process now. I need to get my son the U.S. citizenship for which I need to have the birth certificate. In order to get the birth certificate you need to have the marriage certificate.
My original idea was to pursue the fiancé visa and process the marriage in USA as the paper from here is useless, or so I thought.
Now I need to figure out the best way to proceed, either:
1) Get the Marriage certificate solely for the purpose of getting the birth certificate
2) Try to find what else I can give instead of the birth certificate. Obviously it is possible as some older dudes have had children and been able to get their kids the citizenship processed.
I am not concerned and sure it will get sorted in the end, it is just a pain to deal with.
I Think the marriage paper isn't too difficult to get so I am leaning to go that route.

I'm curious exactly what an unmarried guy needs to do to get a baby citizenship. Let's say a benevolent American dude knows a pregnant Cambodian woman and decides to say its his kid. Maybe she pays him, maybe he's just a nice guy, I don't know.
Does she just announce that it's his kid at the the hospital and to the sangkat and he becomes the father on the birth certificate, and then he brings the kid to the embassy and says "It's mine" and the kid gets US citizenship?
I wonder why the US wouldn't require that the American guy either be married to the mother or paternity proven by blood test.
