Stuff held at customs
I have been ordering stuff from Gearbest and Aliexpress for a while and it all has been delivered to the PO with no problems.
There is one thing however which the website shows as 'held at customs' for almost a couple of weeks now. It's a low value household item - maybe only $5 so I don't know why they'd be interested in this and not in other stuff.
I've been to customs once before but this was quite a while ago and I had a fixer with me. Is it still out beside the airport? Is it easy to pick up stuff held there nowadays?
TBH if it is going to take ages and they are going to peg me for tax I'd probably just write it off and leave it there. I can't be arsed investing too much time on it.

I was there yesterday. There are customs brokers there who can assist you...they are the guys walking around everywhere with a little man bag and paperwork. Get one of them to help you. They may charge you. I have no idea how much. I wasn't charged yesterday, probably because he did my paperwork while also doing bigger jobs.
It took me a couple of hours and I had some starter paperwork. It may take you less, the same, or longer.
Yes, same place outside airport.
I was charged $4.50 by ....can't remember....I posted in thread about unaccompanied baggage....you wouldn't need to pay much in tax if anything.

If it's going to take a couple of hours I may just leave it - it's really not worth the hassle.
Anal probes can't be described as "household items". Even a Cambodian customs official knows that.

I brought in two posh ceiling fans last week with AliExpress. The fans cost $90 each with shipping of $150, total cost $330. Post office got $7 and customs got $23 bringing total purchase price to $360. The local price would have been about $20 bucks more and the leadtime longer.
However, greedy customs wanted more like $140 initially and only hateful nagging from Mrs Bosco reduced them to the more reasonable $23.

Isn't customs supposed to charge on percentage of item cost? Or does the customs officer just make up the charge with whatever comes in his head? If the latter is the case, why not just slap on a 300% customs tax on every time coming across? Tea house building would be alor faster that way.Bosco wrote:I brought in two posh ceiling fans last week with AliExpress. The fans cost $90 each with shipping of $150, total cost $330. Don't worry, be happy.

What I don't get is the declared item cost on the customs form provided by the sender.
I have received many things where the declared item cost was a fraction of the actual cost.

Update. after me deciding to write it off and leave my 'household item' at customs as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle. I went and bought an alternative in Cambodia. Now today, now after 8 weeks in customs they released it to the PO without any fee. Weird...
