I am not sure your point or your motivation in your reply, however, there are several good reasons to visit a prison. For one, accountability and human rights, and also for humanitarian reasons, thirdly for supporting a friend or acquaintance, and fourthly, as you have indicated, for voyeurism which is not a good reason.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Well you are talking about going to visit...PorkPiePorn wrote:Huh?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:OP - haven't you heard of Trip Advisor?
I wonder is prison tourism any more acceptable than orphanage tourism?
There may well actually be a high %age of population crossover.
I will not lie, I am curious, however, I have toured a womens prison as part of visitation group I was involved with, as well as I have also visited an inmate at a maximum security prison as a favor to his mother. People in prison most often SHOULD be there, but they are still human beings, and a little compassion can surely alleviate some of their mental suffering. I am almost certain that if you have the right heart and purpose, most inmates would welcome your visit.
I am actually interested in doing something related to prison work, as far as my voluntary contribution to society would be concerned. The idea of being locked in a box, helpless to manage your own affairs and therefore totally dependent upon the care of your captors frightens me on a personal level. If you need access to medication or care and your plea's fall upon deaf ears, its fucked up. I actually do not care who you are or what you have done, it is not right to let a human being suffer, in spite of their loss of freedom ah, but I digress.

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

No real reason - just messing.
Look into Prison Fellowship. They are a Christian organisation but aren't zealous. They do loads of good stuff regarding education and training. I've donated resources to them in the past.

Thank-you, I will look into them. I am not anti Christian, just not keen on organized religion or fanaticism. I also believe in rehabilitation whenever possible over a punitive model.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:No real reason - just messing.

Didn't Bayon Pearnik run a series of articles purportedly written by an expat in prison here recently. It was probably faked, but it ran for several issues.
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.

A1: What are they like? The gaol I visited just outside Siem Reap was grim and overcrowded, but if you've got a wad of cash you can actually make yourself somewhat more comfortable than the general prison population.PorkPiePorn wrote: Q1: What are they like.
Q2: Can you visit the jails, have you ever, and whats it like?
A2: Yes, you can visit gaols in Cambodia. There are numerous barang banged up, find out the names of a few countrymen and visit them yourselves. Are you a Pom? Is Fletcher still alive and inside? Visit and ask him. Or not, he's a cunt.
If you do visit inmates appreciate you taking them things like soap, shampoo disposable razors, etc.
Don't forget to take fresh fruit. For rotting vegetables...

Back in the day before PJ somethi g or other became GSM we would turn up on visiting time with a case of beer and a huge happy pizza for our mate, gave the guards 10000r plus a slice n a can and we would get a party going under the old tree that was in the yard.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
As discorain was reporting that Fletcher is going to get a Royal Pardon in the next month or so, perhaps we should ask him to write an article for us on his experiences. That would be fun.
As I recall, Fletcher had a vengeance list he mentioned just before and even after getting locked up. Was it only KiR on his Khmer440 hit list or were there other posters specifically mentioned? Can't remember.scobienz wrote:As discorain was reporting that Fletcher is going to get a Royal Pardon in the next month or so, perhaps we should ask him to write an article for us on his experiences.
Hell yeah that would be fun. Come write us a nice front page think-piece upon release, Fletch. You could probably use a few bucks and I hear they pay the writers really well.scobienz wrote:That would be fun.
Although he may have to sneak it in quick before he gets deported. Isn't he wanted back in the UK for some unfinished jail time there?
