Where to buy pita
Where to buy pita
Know this is a minor question but I've been confounded in finding this. Does anyone know where one can buy Pita in Phnom Penh?
Being a hummus lover I don't view this as a minor question. The fact that the Lebanese excuse me Phonecian mob that runs the restaurants here were all too frigging lazy to make pita bread (WTF is a wrap), which ain't hard, was reason #132 I left Cambodia.

Pretty easy to make yourself, which is what I do using this recipe:

I was thinking the same. Ask them. I saw some pitiful (pittaful?) Attempts selling for $1 a pop at vedgys

I agree with Hanno, pretty easy to make your own.

I always use this recipe, both recipes are pretty similar, this one is cooked in the oven instead of frying. They normally turn out well, sometimes no puff in the middle but that is probably due to my oven and impatience.
It surprises me that the big supermarkets do not stock them

They sell big pittas in the Japanese bakery at Cambodian Superstore on 1986.

I thought these were pretty disappointing. I reckon these ones are only called pita because of the shape.Lucky Lucan wrote:They sell big pittas in the Japanese bakery at Cambodian Superstore on 1986.
For me their bread is too sweet for pita, it almost tastes like English muffin bread.
I stopped by there last night and they said they would sell them for 3 for $2. I'm not sure if that's a reasonable price but it doesn't really seem very reasonable.violet wrote:Maybe at A Taste of the Middle East restaurant on St 19 up near St 118?
Thanks everyone for your replies.... other than the bakery on 1986 or buying it from a restaurant, it doesn't sound like anywhere sells it. The place on 1986 is too far from me and people question its quality. Which basically leaves only buying it from a restaurant or making it yourself... and making it yourself does sound like a fairly significant amount of time and effort!

Perhaps if you asked for a larger quantity they would sell for less. You cold then freeze some until needed. I don't suppose they would drop the price significantly though.palm_tree wrote:I stopped by there last night and they said they would sell them for 3 for $2. Not really. The proofing takes a bit of time but it's not like you have to stand next to the dough whilst it proofs.palm_tree wrote:and making it yourself does sound like a fairly significant amount of time and effort!

If there are any supermarket managers or owners out there reading this it could be a good product to add to your inventory!
