Have any of you ever applied for a UK standard visa on the cambodian passport, even though your children are british?
Anyone got any experience attending the VFS office for an interview for their childs first UK passport? Any tips/info much appreciated
1. Make sure you've checked all the documents you need and have them all - if you miss anything they will ask you to go away and come back again, which is a total pain in the ass with their stupid appointment booking system.Tj90 wrote:Anyone got any experience attending the VFS office for an interview for their childs first UK passport? 2. Take a book or something printed to read (you have to leave your phone outside)
3. Be patient, they really are that retarded.

If the children are British then why don't you get them their UK passports rather than trying to get them visassarahkate1288 wrote:Have any of you ever applied for a UK standard visa on the cambodian passport, even though your children are british?
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
No, but I suspect you will get the same response as I had when I tried to apply for Schengen visa on my son's Cambodian passport - was told he must travel on his British passport as he was British, they would not allow him to travel as a Briton on a Cambodian passport through the EU.sarahkate1288 wrote:Have any of you ever applied for a UK standard visa on the cambodian passport, even though your children are british?
Here's the kicker; they only knew he was British as I submitted our marriage documents as part of the Visa application - I was told by German Embassy staff that if he had applied purely with his mother and no other details, he probably would have been accepted the same as hers. (not tested)

It is faster to get a visa than a passport was the logic I had; although I had my son's British passport application underway, I wanted to visit family in France with about 2 months notice - no chance for the British passport, but a Schengen visa totally do-able. Mostly!PSD_Kiwi wrote:If the children are British then why don't you get them their UK passports rather than trying to get them visassarahkate1288 wrote:Have any of you ever applied for a UK standard visa on the cambodian passport, even though your children are british?

I've got to go to Vietnam at the end of the year, in 2 minds whether to just get the Khmer passport for Jr (easy) the apply for the UK. Having a Khmer passport is a + when applying for UK, right?

For some countries, such as the United States, it is actually illegal to enter the country on another passport (so if you're American and British, you it is illegal to enter on your U.K. passport). So, they would certainly not be issuing a visa in another passport. But, not sure about the U.K.Spigzy wrote:No, but I suspect you will get the same response as I had when I tried to apply for Schengen visa on my son's Cambodian passport - was told he must travel on his British passport as he was British, they would not allow him to travel as a Briton on a Cambodian passport.sarahkate1288 wrote:Have any of you ever applied for a UK standard visa on the cambodian passport, even though your children are british?

Just get him both right now and be done with it, no?pedros wrote:I've got to go to Vietnam at the end of the year, in 2 minds whether to just get the Khmer passport for Jr (easy) the apply for the UK. Having a Khmer passport is a + when applying for UK, right?
Having an existing passport is indeed one of the application form questions; I believe it is a positive as it indicates that another country has done a lot of the vetting that you're actually the legal parents, etc. I submitted it as part of my son's application, no problems caused by it for sure.

Did you find a UK police officer, civil servant, or minister of religion to countersign, or just anyone will do?Spigzy wrote: As far as documents go I made a note to include these for the application:
OS_Form_010 (HM Passport Office website + supporting guidance notes & how to pay all online)
- Wife's national ID
- Letter explaining why I signed the form (son was only 2 years old!)
- Photos of the little guy from birth, every 3 months or so
- His Cambodian passport (much easier to obtain, let your wife do this), but an existing passport helps I believe
- My passports since emigrating here
- Wife's passports
- My birth certificate (original needed - this is a pain in the ass, didn't trust post office with it so got on my last trip to UK)
- Son's birth certificate
- Wife's birth certificate
- Cambodian Marriage certificate
- Antenatal records (ridiculous, but required)
- Evidence of residence (rental agreement)
It took about 3 months for mine to come through as the antenatal records part I left off but got called back by the passport office to send through. After that was perhaps 4-5 weeks.
British lawyer I know here, I've no idea if they actually checked with him if he indeed knew my son & me for the prerequisite # years, etc sorry - for me this was OK as I had indeed known said lawyer for the best part of 8-10 years here.

OK thanks, right, countersignatories can also be "professionals". Does publican count?
If I have any at all it will be a couple of ultrasound scans, at best.
Do VFS advise at all (eg alternatives to antenatal records, required docs present and correct) or they just post what you give them?
Maybe I should just get a paternity test and submit that.
Did VFS let you submit the application without checking this?- Antenatal records (ridiculous, but required)
