Damaged passport & transferring visa
Damaged passport & transferring visa
So I damaged my passport and got a new one. The embassy in Bangkok did not send the old one back but they did supply me with stamped copies of all my pages and my visa and EOS. How do I go about getting it transferred to my new passport. Just go to immigration?

I don't think it matters. You no longer have the old passport with the visa in it and you now have a new passport without the visa in it.

I have copies of my visa and EOS in my old passport stamped by my embassy when they issued a new one so I think it does matter, or at least it does from what my embassy told me, as unhelpful as they where.gavinmac wrote:I don't think it matters. Update, I have been told there is 3 ways to go about this.
1. Do nothing until your current EOS is up them do the exit stamp leave and get a new visa way. May or may not be a problem with resident letters, drivers licence, work permits, etc.
2. Pay $120 to transfer, can be done through certain agencies or yourself at immigration. You need a letter from your embassy as well as a police report from the tourist police (yes, even for water damage}. Then when you are going to travel pay for your exit stamp.
3. Do exactly as beaker says above and get a brand new visa.
All 3 will eventually need you to leave and return, just depends on what your hassle level is, when you want to leave and the price you are willing to pay I guess.

Number 2 is the correct course of action, go direct to the DoI, it should not cost you $120. You will not need to pay for an Exit stamp when you leave, what makes you think that?
Beaker was referring to the Exit visa, if you go down this route you still need to supply letters from Embassy and Tourist Police report, and then you need to leave the country within 1 week and renter on a new VOA and pay for a new EOS.
The other options will cause more hassle than they're worth.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Was just told I would need to pay for an exit stamp, not 100% on that one. The DoI is the one by the airport?PSD_Kiwi wrote:Number 2 is the correct course of action, go direct to the DoI, it should not cost you $120. Yes, DoI is near the airport. No need to pay for an exit stamp...Exit visas cost $20 if you take that option.

Thank you PSD, helpful as always.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Yes, DoI is near the airport. No need to pay for an exit stamp...Exit visas cost $20 if you take that option.
So.... getting a police report is turning out to be more of a challenge than I thought. Went to the dept of tourist police, they directed me to go to the wat Phnom police who then called someone after repeatedly telling me that I could not get a report without the passport. I talked with the guy who said come by the office, the tuk tuk driver knows where it is. The driver said he was done for the day so couldn't take me and that it was 8km away so... I talked with the guy in the office again and said I would be there Monday, he gave me his number and said to have the tuk tuk guy talk to him for directions. Been a trying day lol. See how Monday goes.
So an update on this, after finally getting the police report, which cost $30 and was way out right beside the license issuing place, I went to immigration where it seemed I was getting the run around while there the first time. I waited upwards of 2 hours before they finally agreed to transfer it but they would have to keep my passport for a month, after being flat out told no I could get it done any quicker I agreed. Went back today to pick it up fully expecting the run around again but after 5 minutes was handed my passport with the transferred visa in it, signed a piece of paper saying I received it and that was it. Lol. I kind of just stood there for a minute dumbfounded then finally asked if I could just go as I was waiting for how much I had to pay and he said that was it I could go. A good day at immigration today. [emoji16]
Glad to hear
