Cat piss is a problem
Cat piss is a problem
There are wild cats in my building, lots of them. The locals clearly feed them as they do not look like Belsen victims. All this fine dining and drinking, once processed, has to end up somewhere, and sadly it’s in the common areas.
I don’t mind the cats (they grow on you) but want to find a way to dissuade them from defacating or urinating anywhere near where I am. I’m sure there was a simple spray available for this once but no supermarket or home store here seems to have it. Any thoughts?

I would like a good answer to this too. My neighbor's cat walks into my gate area and defecates in my entrance way every day. My entrance is separated from theirs by a gigantic metal grid, as they are. So for a while I cleaned up all their kitten's diarrhea, but now I'm bored of it. So to be honest I don't care as long as I don't accidentally step in it. I live a floor above and don't work at home. Meanwhile their business is in cleaning and ironing clothes, and there is a distinct stink of cat shit from the front of the compound. Every day they spray down the area, but leave all this gack stinking up the place.
A friend of mine might have something good for this though, I totally forgot about it but I think you need fox-urine or big cat urine or something, it scares them well away. I'll ask him and get back on it.

There's no fucking way I'm going to be buying kitty litter. I'll just fence the thing out.

I know this may seem crazy but you may try putting a larger carnivals stools there. the scent will make the cats uneasy and stop them thinking it is a safe place to have to go. possibly you could try with some dogshit. I really am not joking.alternatively you can stay on guard for 48 hours making sure that every time a cat comes onto your property you give it a good soaking with your hose.

Lots of good advise here:

You could probably just hire some kids to stand on guard with a water gun for a few days, or buy a dog. Whichever's easier.

I had a similar problems when I first moved into my apartment. The local cats used to shit on my balcony, and the breeze used to waft the smell through the whole apartment if I opened the balcony door. I just bought some of that cheap green netting and cable tied it to the front of the balcony. That worked fine. Now if I can just get the Khmer family who live downstairs and own the whole block to stop letting there three dogs shit in all the communal walkways and not clean it up for a week....

I'd try that but the place it craps is conveniently close to a wall and I've avoided stepping in any crap. If I pepper that area it might start crapping in the middle of the passage or at the bottom of the stairs or something. I bought this weird curved scraper today and removed the last few days worth easily. I'll get the landlady to tell them to do it themselves next time I see her. The green netting idea was good but a might be bit of a hassle to put in.Baconroll wrote:Pepper on the floor area...cheap stuff works no nee for the kampot type

What about the wire mesh shelving/rack stuff they use in shops? Can you get that in any size you want and zip tie it to the gate?Lucky Lucan wrote:I'd try that but the place it craps is conveniently close to a wall and I've avoided stepping in any crap.
