U$ to baht,here or there?
Going over to Thailand. Best to change some $ here @ money changers or do it there? Or same same?
Truly, I've got nothing better to do.

sometime if the thai immigration is having a bad day, or they dont like the look of you or they got some scam running with the money changer, they will ask you to show 20000 baht in thai cash not in dollars or anything else.
money changers are not as prolific in thailand as they are in cambodia and often your only options will be the thai banks. their rates are good check online as they have their rates posted and updated at least daily
difference is going to probably be less that the taxi fare to the money changer no matter where you do it
have seen money changer rates posted in cambodia for this exchange that are better than the minimal exchange rate differential of the thai banks. money changers in thailand also have to beat the banks to stay in business. they may be posted online too, but you still got to find them and physically go there and back

Really? Been to Thailand maybe 60 times, and never have they asked me to show money.
Change your money there, there's no way you get a better rate here.

You will get a better rate using a local exchange here (not the banks) than at a Thai tourist exchange at the airport or in a tourist area. If you want to change in Thailand and are in the area, this place is known among Bangkok expats to offer the best rates: http://www.vasuexchange.com/

This thread is still pretty accurate, except for the exchange rates: http://www.khmer440.com/chat_forum/view ... 39&t=56235
I always go with at least a few thousand baht of smallish notes.

I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.
That one is actually is a tourist area....slavedog wrote:You will get a better rate using a local exchange here (not the banks) than at a Thai tourist exchange at the airport or in a tourist area. OP, you can also use superrich. They offer a similar rate, but have more offices. Changing at the airport is a rip off of course, sometimes I feel like even the ATM at the airports give a lower rate, so bring at least some Thai Baht, or just change a small amount at the airport in Bangkok.

cant agree with the exchange you say. once again depends on where you do it, sure shop around first
they also get lots of this exchange rate advertising disguised as posts there on thaivisa too

I think as long as you're not wearing havianas and wife beater (or look like Benjamin Holst) you'll be ok.Youn Hoo Fatt wrote:yes its the 61 time that they get you for sure..depends on the border among other things. search thaivisa forum they had a rash of this occurring last year.Kachang wrote:Really? yes search thaivisa and you will see it was only "havianas and wife beater" who were harrassed.
how do i know about the current exchange for baht in cambodia? because i have been exchanging my baht for dollars over the last couple of months and have noted the rates being offered in various place because i have a monetary interest in knowing. when i go again and get more baht it wont be in thailand that i will be doing the exchange, it will be in cambodia most likely in battambong. exchanges on charles de gaul near Czech road have good rates too. havent checked central market area.
as noted not worth the effort traveling around for the price differential being offered.

why am i now based in cambodia and not thailand? there is a limit to how much shit one can be on the receiving end from thai immigration and that limit was exceeded long ago. virtually every time i have decided to stay long term in cambodia it was immediately preceded by dealing with thai immigration. they just absolute bad news have been forever but now even worst than in the past. sometimes also for months at a time in malaysia or laos for the same reason. sure there are benefits to living in thailand or i wouldnt be returning so often but dealing with thai immigration cancels out these benefits till you erase from your mind again how bad thai immigration is.

No one asked this question. We all know the answer. Thailand has done a masterful job clearing out the bottom feeders and forcing them to move to Cambodia.Youn Hoo Fatt wrote:why am i now based in cambodia and not thailand?

first time thai immigration persuaded me to live longtime in cambodia was in the previous century so thai immigration have been bad news for a loooong time. so even before the current extreme bad news episode

Sure, but it isn't one of the bank outlets, which is what I was trying to get at.Kachang wrote:That one is actually is a tourist area....slavedog wrote:You will get a better rate using a local exchange here (not the banks) than at a Thai tourist exchange at the airport or in a tourist area. Anyway, unless you have a few thousand left over from your last trip to get you to your hotel etc, it's better to change here and avoid having to do it at the border or airport.

untrue, very very seldom ( if u look like a bum or hipster and are entering on a visa exempt they might ask for to see 20,000 baht ( in ANY currency)
There are millions of money changers, exchange places in every area that has tourist, plus banks all have exchange counters outside the bank,
If u only have Riel change in Cambodia, if u have $$ change in thailand
DO make sure u have some thai baht to pay for ur cab to ur hotel as the exchange rate at the airport sucks
why am i now based in cambodia and not thailand?
who cares, Thailand does not want nor need those that cant get the right visa to stay here. see how long u make it in Cambodia...
Superrich usually has the best rates..https://www.superrichthailand.com/#!/en/exchange
