I was wondering if there has ever been huge burglaries or robberies here.
With all the cash being kept in the banks, in the "ATMs" - which are sometimes just a safebox attached to a computer, in shops...
There are of course leaks, from factories or from shops, but that's just petty theft.
Are there no Bonnie & Clyde in this country? or they're just too lazy? or scared by the security guys
Noticeable burglaries or robberies ?
There was a gang in 2017 doing stick ups on chinese-khmer gold shops around kandal and kampong spue. They got caught hiding out around aural, iirc. They were probably netting around 10k a job, so not exactly Biggs and co.
But when the biggest mafia is who it is, you gotta be crazy to hustle that.

In term large scale house robbery or burglary the culprits are usually insiders.

1,118,000 riel, that's a bottom low.
It would have been better to rob some "mini mart" near riverside.
On the other hand, who needs to rob a bank when you get international aid & when corruption is available.
That probably explains why there have been so few armed robberies in the country.
People prefer to murder to grab 2 grams of gold than planning a big theft with insiders.
Thanks for the answers.

The Glock he left on the counter was worth a whole lot more than that! Anyway I heard he's been released since and is back in France.upstage wrote:1,118,000 riel, that's a bottom low.

Yes, I can just imagine the hardened criminals at Prey Sar writing proposals on old brown wrapping paper to send to international development agencies. All the other inmates just dream of the day when they are finally released and suddenly become high officials.upstage wrote: On the other hand, who needs to rob a bank when you get international aid & when corruption is available.
