Daughters first k visa questions
My mate is from NZ , he has a daughter living with him 8 years of age . She has a NZ passport without any stamps because she was born in Cambodia, her mother is Cambodian however she is not married or living with my friend.
Can he leave for a.week in Vietnam with his daughter using the daughter NZ passport that has never been used and return to Cambodia and apply and be issued a K Visa when he returns. He has her birth certificate . It's not practical at the moment for the mother to be involved .

Not sure of the procedure. A Khmer oversea friend had to provide birth certificate and family bookwith his child and the parents' name on it. They had to go the immigration office in PP, I think they also paid a little bit of tea money to speed up the process.
my understanding of these things is that some sort of documents from the non-accompanying parent is required to authorise leaving the country.
best to cross borders with the nz embassy ph number on you during their office hours.
sometimes you also need a covering letter from the embassy saying that they issued the passport. thailand requires this for first use.

no replying to those who misinterpret/misread what i write. this aint kindergarten
First things first, the kid will need an Exit Visa. $20 from the GDoI, takes 1-3 days to process, only valid for 1 week so plan travel accordingly. Take kids birth cert, family book and/or Carnet de Residence, couple pp pics, parents passports and National ID, best to take the Khmer parent along also.
Upon return, tick the K-type (special) visa box on the VOA app form, hand over to the visa desk with a couple pp pics and the birth certificate, the K-type visa is free so don’t pay any money for it. Could be an issue if the Khmer parent isn’t present?
Is this trip specifically in order to obtain the K-type visa? Does the kid have a Cambodian pp?
Sociopaths post about requiring an Authorisation letter from the mother is a good point, could face some problems without. Best to get the mother involved.

K-Visa is an issue if you're not talking khmer, so better have khmer parent around. The visa is free, indeed, but show them you're khmer by giving them some coffee moneyPSD_Kiwi wrote:First things first, the kid will need an Exit Visa. $20 from the GDoI, takes 1-3 days to process, only valid for 1 week so plan travel accordingly. Both myself and my kid's mother went to the Immigration office together, I'm not sure it was even necessary for her to come. I traveled abroad with him alone and there was no issue getting the K-visa on our return.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Upon return, tick the K-type (special) visa box on the VOA app form, hand over to the visa desk with a couple pp pics and the birth certificate, the K-type visa is free so don’t pay any money for it. He has been to immigration they need or want to see the mother first but she's out Pursat way and not an easy task for her to make the effort to get to Phnom Penh .
The trip is not specifically for the K Visa . It's a holiday to catch up with his family.
Of course the K visa is good for the return but would he be able to exit with his daughters NZ passport thats never been used so has no entry stamp ?

If the kids got a Cambodian passport then just use that, save all the ducking around with an Exit Visa.

Yep. That is what I intended to do for my kids and myself included. Only a bit over $100 for 3 months wait and good for 10 years. Visa free to all the ASEAN countries.

I forget to add. Once you get a Khmer passport, basing from friends who immigrated to western countries they simply showed their Khmer passport on arrival and got a K visa on their foreign passport. I dont know about its legality, psd_kiwi seems to know that side of thing.

The passport has place of birth on it, which, if listed as a cambodian city, is all you need (at least for me anyway) to get a K visa.
No birth cert, no other documents. I couldn't really speak khmer when I entered, but managed an 'I'm Cambodian' in khmer, then just kept silent.

I know when I flew with my son out of Phnom Penh the immigration was looking at each other because we had both passports. They let us go but I was worried and wished we had only handed them the Cambodia passport.PSD_Kiwi wrote:If the kids got a Cambodian passport then just use that, save all the ducking around with an Exit Visa.
Not sure if I really need to get the K-visa, but I can get it from the Cambodia embassy in Washington when my son is in USA this year.
