I want to have a health-related test done and can't be bothered to go to the doctor to get it.
I went to one place already but find the result hard to believe.
Can anyone suggest a good lab?
Pasteur is good, but avoid the lab at Calmette. Well, maybe just avoid Calmette as whole if possible.
Paramed is good too, according to my experience. Have used them for double checks a few times and they never came up with crazy results. Calmette hospital came up with crazy results, they must have mixed up samples, or f*cked it up another another way.

Ok, thanks, I saw Paramed on Google maps and it looks like it might be good based on nothing else but the size of their building.
I've had a couple experiences in Cambodia that led me to doubt lab results. Yesterday I got a result where there was such a dramatic change in the result in just six months that it seems hard to believe.
I know little about maintenance of this equipment but it seems logical that if it is not maintained then the results could start to go haywire.

There's loads of small companies buying a machine, and buying the chemicals, without any knowledge at all.palm_tree wrote:Ok, thanks, I saw Paramed on Google maps and it looks like it might be good based on nothing else but the size of their building.

A few months ago I had my blood checked at what's considered the best 'lab' here in the Northeast and the outcome was the direct bilirubin in my blood was higher than the total bilirubin.
Normally this is an impossible outcome, unless you have a pretty rare kind of leukemia. The 'lab operator' handed me the results with a 'too high'.
I went to Phnom Penh and had my blood tested at two different places (one of them Paramed) to double check, and of course the results of the local lab were wrong. When I confronted them and explained it all I got the idea they did not have a clue what i was talking about. I got no answer to the question whether they checked the expiry date of the chemicals used.
In the past quite a few NGO's have been giving out blood testing machines for free, but training has been limited, sometimes non existent, and throwing away chemicals would be a waste, wouldn't it?
Choose a lab in PP with a high turn over and you will be fine.
Interesting story... it seems ot be a symptom of the whole medical system in Cambodia- most doctors don't even use tests. Everyone has "leu cheeyam" (seems to translate to high blood pressure).
Another place I found out about is BioMed, which looks impressive based on their website: http://www.biomed-lab.com/

They will email you your results, usually by 5pm the same day if you go in early
very well run
Their website has everything but an address...
Proudly sent from my Gameboy by Super Mario using Kakaplok.
I second on Paramed @ Street 154. Went there with several in-laws and each time, the test results did match the expectation and the treatment cured the problem.
Thanks Vlad and v12 for your additional reviews. I'll report back what I find out after trying either one of them and comparing to the previous lab.
On a similar subject, if anyone wants to get an X ray of their injury and skip going to a general practitioner, I recommend this guy.
He did three X rays for $25 dollars. Consultation in English- $10. Medications separate. Based on that I was able to confirm that I didn't have a broken bone and got his advice on how to handle my injury.
