Sorry about starting a similar thread. Talking about regular bikes though, and it's the simple old 90's MTB's that are best for touring, rather than the new more short wheel base fancy suspension ones. Plus wan't simplicity rather than disc brakes etc.
I seem to remember there being a load of shops selling bikes and frames near the Russian market. Mostly the usual cheap crap stuff, but do you see the odd quality bike or frame ( probably nicked) suitable for touring there, or should i just head for the bike shops?
The correct frame size is all important to me for comfort.
Also, do they sell trailers in the bike shops?
Touring and Mountain bikes, or frames in PP?

None of the bike shops will have touring bikes so don't waste your time going there. Bangkok or HCMC are your best bet for a touring bike but it will cost you. Alternatively, if you know exactly what you want and size, and you get friendly with the boss at Giant he may be able to get one shipped in with his deliveries. If you want to make one on the cheap, then head out to the bike warehouse by the smelly canal and search by yourself, French made, steel frame would be what you are looking for, think of the cyclo guys in Chao Doc. Get the frame, then build the wheels, you need more spokes than on a mtb.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Buy a bike off of eBay with the help of CamboQuick.
I did in January; easy and fast (delivery about a month from winning the auction) he guarantees the whole process too (e.g. if it arrived not as advertised he'd take on the responsibility of sending it back)
I got myself a lovely Specialized Roubaix, ex-demo bike from a shop in New York for a $1000 less than the same bike would have cost me from Specialized Phnom Penh for the same model.
