Clothes washing power use to clean dishes
A few friends house I visited use clothes washing powder to clean their dishes for years, my instinct tells me it is bad but I dont know why it is nor I have any good reasoning. I asked them why, most said it cleans better than dish washing liquid, but I also think because it is cheaper and easy to get. Ones they use are Viso brand and alike. Is it bad or am I just being paranoid?

I think in either case it wouldnt be too good to eat the soap, so as long as its rinsed well, shouldnt hurt. Also, there could be bleach in the laundry soap, but in very fractional quantities it is similar to chlorine and not harmful. I think it is better than dirty plates, and if someone else is washing the dishes its always a good day.
Please don't throw me in that briar patch!
Funny - I get one of those yellow bottles of dish soap liquid, use it for dishes, clothes, and the floor. Works great. And cheap.

On the road as I am, I have used regular bathroom soap to clean not only my body but also clothes and dishes, shampoo as well for all three.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Soap is soap, to a large degree.

Yeah, the cheap yellow stuff that the stores all carry - I add some bleach to it when doing the floors. No streaks, dries shiny. Except for paw marks.
Depending on the product it could contain carcinogenic compounds or leave residual compounds that if mixed with the right food could be toxic. I would not recommend it but the amounts you ingest are probably low enough not to be an issue.
