Best Way to transfer monthly payments to Cambodia.
If it's a relatively small monthly amount, I'd keep the money for a year or so (depends on how often you travel to Cambodia) in my Wing account and make monthly transfers from there. Cost-wise, that probably cannot be beaten. If it's a mid-range amount, I'd go with the "send an ATM card over" suggestion. For large amounts, SWIFT.
-Western Union for smaller amounts
-Set up bank account for larger amounts
That is what I have done, however, I would likely do a more robust analysis if I were to frequently send small amounts. Based on my quick check I saw significant savings using Western for 2 small transactions.

How much can you keep in your swing? You can keep up to $5000 in your PiPay.Alex wrote:If it's a relatively small monthly amount, I'd keep the money for a year or so (depends on how often you travel to Cambodia) in my Wing account and make monthly transfers from there. And when you use the Wing ap, do you pay a fee? I know it’s 6000 riel to use a normal Wing storefront.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. I only wanted to send $200 dollars every month to a family member. I closed out my Cambodian bank accounts. I don't know if my wife's Acleda account is still open as we cashed it out and it's had no activity for almost 2 years now.
So if just sending a small amount, western union is the cheapest way?
Does western union charge a fee based on the amount? Also, no exchange rate. It would be USD to USD.
I like what migs said. Said family member is responsible with money, so maybe just toss 5k on a debit card, mail it to them and let them have at it.

Western Union charges a fee based on the amount. Like around $12 to send $150-$200. They have internet transfers, where you go online and send from your bank account and the other person collects in Cambodia, but a year or so ago they blocked such transfers to Cambodia so you have to go to a Western Union branch/terminal (probably at your local supermarket).DetroitMuscle wrote:Thank you for the suggestions everyone. I used it April 17, sent $400 and paid $11 fee. Never left my house.

Good to know, maybe they reinstated that feature. I'm pretty sure Cambodia was blocked last year.GMJS-440 wrote: I used it April 17, sent $400 and paid $11 fee. Never left my house.
Or maybe I was blocked and they just told me "It's not you, it's Cambodia."

Their compliance lady must have balked at the reason for payment, "$45 agreed short term fee" wasn't very subtle.gavinmac wrote:Good to know, maybe they reinstated that feature. It looks like I am unblocked for internet bank transfers now. Or Cambodia is unblocked. It's showing online as $11 charge for sending online. Also, it's offering instead a charge of just $5 if you set up the whole transaction online and then just bring ID and cash to the store to complete the transfer. That's pretty cheap.

FFS whatever you do do NOT use ANZ anymore.
My wife was in there today retrieving a swallowed ATM card.
I told her to withdraw cash over the counter using her passport
next thing i know she is calling me and I am speaking to a little ANZ fucktard who is telling me that any withdrawals under $2000 have to be done at the ATM and cannot be done over the counter.
i told him that is the most retarded thing I hve ever heard and if he could not assist id close the ANZ account and move all our funds over to ABA
She got the cash but seriously.....ANZ is a fuckin basket case these days

It’s hilarious how some people have one ‘bad’ experience and suddenly are advising everyone NOT *capitalized!!!* to use a certain bank.
You can get dodgy service anywhere, it depends on the human involved who maybe is crap at customer service (common here), or doesn’t understand policies.
I’d agree that repeated bad service should lead to advising others to go elsewhere. But on one bad experience - it’s pretty childish. Come on Ricecakes, put your big boy pants on.
Saying that, I’ve yet to get anything approaching dodgy customer service at ABA.

I had numerous shit experiences with ANZ over the last 12 years you *caps* FUCKING TIT.
I am told by insiders they want to divest the retail business by attrition and hence the numerous little fucktarderies you will experience.
