I have an 8" Huwai with a cracked glass. Screen underneath is fine. Anybody got any idea how much it should cost to replace? I have been quoted silly prices so far.

The glass can be tricky to replace because there is a very real risk of breaking the screen when removing it from the rear housing. I've changed countless screens on phones but won't ever do a glass replacement. Too risky.
Lot's of the newer phones have a combination (one piece) digitizer w/LCD or LED screen and some have a front frame as part also.
When buying a replacement make sure to get the tools and double sided tape gaskets needed and look for video instructions on YouTube to decide if you want to tackle the job or get help.

^this.
Many modern phones have the sensors for the touchscreen glued to the glass, or even more. This means you can not just replace the glass, and that's when 'ridiculous' prices will be charged.

I just replaced the screen assembly on my wife's Xiaomi Note 3 prime the price was less than $21. with tools, and everything needed to do the job that took me about an hour shipping was 99cents .Kachang wrote:^this.

But the replacement screen you got isn't an IPS screen like the original.Beaker wrote:I just replaced the screen assembly on my wife's Xiaomi Note 3 prime the price was less than $21. with tools, and everything needed to do the job that took me about an hour shipping was 99cents .Kachang wrote:^this.

Simple in Australia, but not cheap. iPhone 6 is $100 and a Sony Experia $130. Takes about 20 minutes at any phone stall in the shopping centres. One is able to repair anything on quality phones, on a Huawei I don't know.

Well that answers my question on another thread. I was charged 135 to reach screen and digitizer here. Obviously overcharged. Another place charges 120 (I found out later) ... Still a rip off (Samsung J7 Pro).crazyjohn wrote:Simple in Australia, but not cheap. iPhone 6 is $100 and a Sony Experia $130. Takes about 20 minutes at any phone stall in the shopping centres. It was an IPS screen and no different from original. There is no market to create knock off screens for a xiaomi 3 prime too smallKachang wrote:But the replacement screen you got isn't an IPS screen like the original.Beaker wrote:I just replaced the screen assembly on my wife's Xiaomi Note 3 prime the price was less than $21. with tools, and everything needed to do the job that took me about an hour shipping was 99cents .Kachang wrote:^this.

Thanks for the eBay tip. There is a shop which replaces iPhone 8 screens for $40 in PP. I will get the name of the shop if anybody is interested.
