Does the marriage certificate worth something?

Does the marriage certificate worth something?

Postby bbalet » Thu May 10, 2018 1:33 pm

Hi,

I have done all the 6 months long and crazy process from Embassy to MoFA to MoI to Sangkat (with all the ink, stamp and beer taxes). But now, I have the feeling that everything is for nothing as the Sangkat refuses to put my name on any document (Family book or Carnet de Résidence). They said it is only for Khmer citizens.

Is there any advantage? Can we really get Khmer citizenship after 3 years of marriage or is it just a myth?

As far as I know it's the law, but there's also a law you should wear a helmet on a motorcycle.

Good luck enforcing it.

Besides, in order to get Khmer citizenship you have to be fluent in Khmer language (oral and written), and have sufficient knowledge about Khmer culture. For many that's a bridge too far I am afraid.
