Tipping Grab drivers?
What's the etiquette? Wanting to hear the opinions of all except those from USA. Thanks

Yeah, whilst I don’t have rules it kinda works out similar to A.
Unless they ask for a tip - then they get nothing.
Link to bank account, cashless transaction, no tip expected.

I've had a few ask for the fare in cash, despite booking the ride with grab pay. Usually on rides using a coupon code. Not sure if it's a lack of education on the part of Grab, or a punt by the driver.slavedog wrote:Link to bank account, cashless transaction, no tip expected.

I always tip PassApp drivers as otherwise it seems too cheap.

And in my opinion ... it is people like you that are fucking it up for the rest of the expats. So they expect a tip.Lucky Lucan wrote:I always tip PassApp drivers as otherwise it seems too cheap.
If it's too cheap, find a more economical ride to suit your needs, but please stop tipping unless they do something, like carry your luggage or ... well, pretty much anything to warrant a tip.
I'm American, but yer a backwards person. Moral of the post: DO NOT TIP BECAUSE YOU THINK IT IS TOO CHEAP!

Nobody gives a fuck about your opinion you pathetic, attention seeking imbecile.

I am an American, but I can assure you...that Cambodians routinely tip. Don't be a tight ass scumbag and flip the Grab driver a tip (if you had good service). Tipping a small amount goes a long way in greasing the track, and making your life easy in Cambodia.

Pray tell, just how that makes your life easier in Cambodia and ........... grease the tracks, so to speak.LoneStar wrote:I am an American, but I can assure you...that Cambodians routinely tip. LL is a moron to give a gratuity for nothing other than feeling it is just too cheap.
Let's here your story, Lonestar.

Well,
I tip when I go to bars and restaurants and get decent service. I tip the guys that park my car when I go into a shop. I especially tip my local tuk tuk drivers and moto dops. Being nice, kind, and generous are qualities that are highly respected in Cambodian culture. I can promise you that in 17 years that I have had these guys come to my aid when needed....which more than made up for the small tips.

I'd have to agree with most of what you said.LoneStar wrote:Well,

Except ... how does that^have to do with tipping a taxi or Grab drivers?
And I doubt that the guys that came to your aid did it over the tips you gave them.
You start giving them tips for nothing and you have a city full of Grab drivers that act like tuk tuk drivers, and they are the REAL low end of the chain.
I have car too, but I wouldn't tip someone because I thought (whatever the circumstances) it was too cheap.
And we all know how the tuk tuk drivers are. I think LL should take tuk tuks and then tip them.

I concur with Alexandra and LL. One of my usual routes with Passapp is just over 3000 Riel, its not far - just over a kilometer. I always give the guy 1$ or 5000 riel if that's all I have. If its longer, say 5000 - 6000 riel, I will usually give them two dollars. I do this partly because taking passapp to a place for 75 cents seems too cheap when other tuktuk guys will ask for 3 dollars to take me home on the same route.
