Dengue and other epidemics?
I've been hearing of more and more people I know coming down with Dengue recently. Today I heard of a couple of locals I work with being hospitalized with Malaria. They spend most of their lives in the capital but they could have picked it up in the provinces. Anyone else noticed people dropping like flies? *

There was a dengue warning/campaign in late June
Around the same time, malaria fears from the provinces
Phnom Penh: Health officials have confirmed that in Phnom Penh in the last few weeks, dengue fever has increased, particularly in the suburbs. So let's be careful and take part in the elimination of the mosquito habitat, and prevent the spread of dengue fever.
Ngy Hieng, director of the Phnom Penh Municipal Health Department, said by phone on June 20, 2018 that in three days last week, dengue fever had dramatically spread to a number of children.
He said the dengue fever was most common in 8 Khan Khleang Districts - Chbar Ampov Mean Chey Dangkor Por Sen Chey Sen Sok Prek Pnov, Russey Keo, and Chroy Changvar District. Therefore, people should be involved in eliminating the mosquito habitats, especially where water such as tires, cans, bottles and objects which trap rainwater.
Ngy Heng said from June 21 to the Department of Health Phnom Penh and local authorities will launch a campaign to teach people how to eliminate mosquito larvae and mosquito habitats.
Around the same time, malaria fears from the provinces
Kampong Cham Province: Kampong Cham Department of Health announced that in the first five months of this year, malaria in four districts has increased by 230 more cases than in 2017.
Districts in the affected areas were Chamkearleu, Preychhor and Kampong Siam.
He said that there are 198 villages in the Malaria epidemic area, with the provincial hospital, six referral hospitals, 88 health centers and 35 volunteer clinics in the target villages adjacent to the malaria site.
He added that there was free rehabilitation services for malaria for people at health centers, referral hospitals and provincial hospitals. 385 cases have been reported. Despite 32 cases being severe, there have been no deaths from infections in the province since 2015.
Royal Cambodian Red Cross says the increasing malaria rates over the first five months of 2018 is due to weather factors, with more rain creating ideal conditions for mosquitos.
Migrants returning from working in areas with malaria in other provinces, especially Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, might also be a factor in spreading the disease.
Kim Teav Phirun, director of the Kampong Cham Department of Health, said that officials and authorities will spread malaria information to all patients in all hospitals and health centers in the province

No, haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. About 8 months ago I had one staff member who was ill for about a fortnight, sounded a lot like dengue but it wasn’t diagnosed.
It's that time of year year when dengue is on the rise, but this year there's also an nasty Influenza A going round.
The Phnom Penh Post reported that numbers were bad even before the "high season" had started, back in Feb: https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... phnom-penh
I'm noticing higher numbers - several staff and students have been diagnosed.
I was unaware there was a flu going around too but I think I may have picked it up.

Really? I've been knocked on my ass in Bangkok for the last week with what they are guessing is flu. Fevers, headache, muscle ache, coughing, gagging, puking, etc.Kachang wrote:It's that time of year year when dengue is on the rise, but this year there's also an nasty Influenza A going round.

There’s only one epidemic you need to be worried about.

This reminds me of a recent thread on the SR Expats FB group where a French GH owner, who appears to have lived in Cambodia for several years, was claiming that there was no Dengue in Cambodia and everybody who said there is was lying to scare tourists away
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Trivia...The active ingredient in Tamiflu is derived from star anise.Kachang wrote:... treated with tamiflu.
