Yeah, it would be terrible if he ran into an Italian heiress who works for an NGO who would ruin his dreams of bumming around in hotels trying to blag WiFi for free. He should definitely just try to meet bros.MartyPoppins wrote:Try not to meet a girl (if you are male) and get married - you will deeply regret it.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
v12, so many flavors and you choose douche?
the last few months i was a little busy helping my folks remodel and paint the entire side of their duplex by myself (kitchen, living room, dining room, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths) so they can rent it out, because they're in their 70s and are having serious financial issues. it's something i realized needed to get done, so i did it, even though i already had a lot going on. on top of that, i was taking care of my 96 year old grandmother, who's in a nursing home, and was bogged down with projects from various clients.
in other words, life doesn't always lend itself to your perfect egocentric worldview bubble of optimism bias and self-righteousness which you seem to live under...
hence i posted questions on a few forums. funny thing? this one specifically said:
electrolime, i'm a chinese translator, bilingual editor, english proofreader / consultant.
yatingpom, to each their own. i'd say, if you're traveling with all or most of your belongings, renting apartments, working a lot independently, have no fixed residency, etc., then, in my experience—though possibly vacation-like at times—it's definitely not a vacation in any traditional sense.
steve zodiak, thanks for the link; however, the site is loading pretty slowly. i'll check it out another day.
martypoppins, thanks brother. you seem like a decent bloke.

yet, it is, in fact, the only place where i received a bunch of douch-y answers. ha! lolHere is the place to post any simple or complex questions you may have about any aspect of life in Cambodia and beyond without fear of being told 'That question has been asked 100 times before.

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad that you were able to ask some questions and get solid, reliable answers right away. One of the perks of this forum is that there are many very knowledgeable posters that are willing to take the time to write out detailed answers, without you having to sift through 65 facebook comments of "I think .....", "following", and the like. That being said, there is a very informative FB group for visa and work permit questions that one of our posters moderates, but even there if you post a question that has been answered 100 times they'll just tell you to scroll down. There are also a few expat groups that cater to questions such as where to find a chai mocha latte or, and these are actual recent questions, "what's the weather like in Siem Reap in February", "anyone know a pet groomer, my puppy needs a haircut", and "any recommendations for places to visit?" Many people will chime in with 5 word answers, and you'll be mocked too, but with a much nicer tone.
On this forum it's a mix of information and banter. I'm not going to lie that sometimes you need to have a thick skin and not take things personally. For example, you've already called two long time posters douches in this thread, so if you can dish it out, expect it back. That doesn't mean to be an asshole to everyone, but accept that their comments towards you weren't personal, they're just slightly making fun of a stereotype that we see a lot, that of a "digital nomad" that passes through town on a jaunt across southeast asia while thinking a few hours in Joma cafe is a great local experience because it's sipping coffee from Laos. We see quite a few very naive posters, one that literally asked if he'd be able to cross the road.
We very lightly mod this forum, and don't apologize for that. It's a great resource, and people will enjoy hearing your new perspective on things once you're here, but part of the fun is also the banter that you won't find elsewhere.
So, welcome and good luck.
Yours truly,
Lead douche
You "like" all of your own posts (plus being the only one who "likes" your posts) and call other people douche? That's bold.oman wrote:v12, so many flavors and you choose douche?
Genuine “cashiers” are either family of the bar owner (often the one that didn’t cheat on her final high school exam (Damn. “High school”, now I’m using it. Damn you Vanessa Hudgens. Damn you to hell) or is the bar owner or is too old to get any punters so they stick her on the cash.
90% it’s a young family member, who doesn’t go with customers - unless you buy her a ring/iPhone/moto or all three.
28 is too old. Maybe even 25 when there are a plentiful supply of teenagers.
Anyhoo. Good luck to the op on your digital meanderings.
