I can't wait until they go the same route as Thailand and ask retirement visa chaps to put 25k into a bank account. That should clear out some dross..

I think Thailand is figuring out, that it is not good for the economy to add restrictive measures towards foreign immigrants, as they most often bring their own economy with them. Especially these days, where you can work online from almost anywhere in the world. While a digital nomad might not be filthy rich, he provides the surrounding community with fresh new blood, and so inspires the locals to up their game as well. It seems even the generals running the current show there, are feeling the economic disadvantages of their newly imposed restrictive immigration policies.

I don't think Thais care a jot about expats unless they are tourists.

People have been saying that the govt will relax rules for years, I remember such a discussion in 2002. The rules often fluctuate a bit, more severe, less severe, possible some top guy's wife gets pissed off by a farang one morning and the rules are tightened

I odn't think there is any logic to it

Tourism, they guard jealously, at least they pretend to, witness the two Brits murdered on the beach and the Burmese who got stitched up pronto
