Tuk-Tuks in PP
This will be a 2 part question:
#1- What # of the Tuk-Tuk drivers there speak English?
#2- In Thailand, especially the bigger cities, if you can get across to the drivers what you are looking for they can find almost anything you want. How is it there?
Thanks,
John

But it all comes down to what the he wants. Two thirds of city tuktuk drivers could probably proof read and edit a university thesis however, show them a city map and *brain explodes*

Thank You All,
For a while when I get there I will definitely be a city boy. The % is a lot higher than I found In Chiang Mai. There it was more like 1/2 that, and most of the English speakers were lost when I showed them a "Tourist" guide map. I finally found a few that were good and got their #'s but by then I had ridden a bicycle around the city for a month and knew most of the places I wanted to. After that I bought a tiny car then a pickup. But they were great for getting around in the rain when I only had the bike. They would also try to get you to go places where they got a bonus if you bought anything. This ranged from soapy massage joints to the girly karaoke bars. They did help me a lot by finding a place where I could buy just about anything used, and a great shop for buying baking/cooking supplies almost wholesale. I know I will probably bet tired of "City life" after a while and go find a quiet corner, probably after I hit 90 or so. But that's 22 years away and by then everyone in Asia may be speaking Mandarin.

You’ll find drivers in heavily touristed areas like Riverside or “Russian” Market will speak a lot of English but in areas where you don’t see many tourists not so much.
You don’t really need them to speak English so much now with the “Über” style apps like Passapp, Grab etc where you can put your destination in. If you need to buy something specific you can always Google it and show them a picture.

Think ya missing the point Migs, OPs second question highlights that he wants a n English speaking tuk tuk to help him fulfil his seedy fantasies by getting him "anything" his heart desires. Considering the large amount of hostess bars where he could procure a lady we can assume he is either after drugs or minors

Did the drivers seem familiar with the concept of credit card payments or was there an argument at the end of many trips where they expected to be paid?ricecakes wrote:I was using whatsapp tuk tuks recently with my credit card attached.

email about 1 minute later saying u had been charged $1 or whatever .
very good.
I think the one area these bajaj guys miss out is the airport runs for larger groups as there is just no luggage space but other than that they must have really hurt the old tuk tuks.
