Do you think 1000ISD is a reasonable amount for an allowance in Cambodia? My girlfriend tells me that all Cambodian guys give their girlfriends allowances. She is 27 years old.

Well, what can we say, she tells you everybody give their girlfriends a 1000USD monthly allowance, so it must be true.Putin4ever2 wrote:Do you think 1000ISD is a reasonable amount for an allowance in Cambodia? My girlfriend tells me that all Cambodian guys give their girlfriends allowances

Sell her to an idiot that will give her a $1,000 per month and get yourself a younger, hotter, and cheaper model.

I don't understand your business model. $1000 is what she gives me.

That's true, all Cambodian guys work very hard, often up to 20 hours a day because their salaries are only $500 a month after graduating and working a few years. They will spend years toiling and being frugal and eating nothing but the simplest food just for the chance to finally throw all their savings at some dozy lady they met in a bar. An allowance is not a bad idea but $1000 a month is a bit steep. I have always believed that giving one a bit of money to call her own was worth every penny, and definitely cheaper than having a G/F stateside. An allowance should be what you are comfortable giving, not what she wants to dictate, and never what will put a pinch in your wallet. What I go by is what they could earn at a real job. From what I understand most basic jobs there pay $200 or so a month, plus you are giving her food, shelter... It's all up to you. And I agree, if she demands it, you need a newer cheaper model.

This whole idea of having a 'kept woman' is rather cringeworthy and chauvinistic these days, isn't it? If nothing else, it certainly perpetuates the insane sense of entitlement these girls can have.
One dude I knew was giving his 'partner' close to $3k a month, but there were some heavy outgoings at the time helping out the business/debt she had.

A ) I'd guffaw loudly right at her face and then tell her to fuck right the fuck off fucking immediately.
or
B) Tell her matter of factly your other GF is only charging you $400 a month and ask her what she is offering for the extra $600 ....
C ) I'd get her to issue an "Accommodation , Food and Beverage " receipt and expense it.
however
A ) would defo be my preferred option.

Ask you for her name, phone number, and a photo. That would be considerably less than what I am shelling outWhat would you do if your Khmer gf asked for 1000 a month for an allowance?

Ive seen it happen in Cambodia.
A french guy was sending a khmer single mum 1000$ a month to help her get her business off the ground , She ended up asking for more and more money and invested in lottery tickets instead of the bar.

Men have been "Keeping" women since the dawn of time. They still are in many places around the globe. I am a totally unrepentant 50's guy. I will die being the same. It works for me. I will also never try to get in touch with my feminine side, get a wax, or be politically correct. But that is just me.
