Supermarket with the Biggest/Best Range of Imported Western Food in Phnom Penh
Hello Brothers,
Which one is it?
Thanks in advance.

Must be Super Duper, but also one of the more pricier on things you can find elsewhere.

And Super Duper only puts prices on 2/3 of the items on its shelves.
Follow my lame Twitter feed: @gavin_mac
It's a mixed bag for me, each has their selection of specialist imported food.
Super Duper - US products.
Thai Huot - Just about everything under the sun a Westerner needs except Stilton cheese, large boxes of San Pellegrino & KP salted peanuts.
Bayon - Heavier on Chinese imports nowadays, ludicrous vegetable pricing policy, but has boxes of San Pellegrino & KP salted peanuts.
Lucky - Stilton cheese. (Sihanouk branch only, ffs)

Is hard discounting ever possible in Cambodia? A Lidl or Aldi would make a killing given the inflated prices. I guess the inflated rents in urban areas make it improbable.

Lidl/Aldi built up over decades by just having a very limited stock of staples which they either sourced at far cheaper prices than the competing products, or they created an alternative to that tasted just as good but cost half the price. An outlet like that could work here, if it just concentrated on a limited range of products and undercut everyone else.

Another ministerial idiot spouting more anger-making rubbish.
‘Product import controls could save $400M’

Anyone tried that relatively new Cambodian made Monster energy drink? I took two swallows and threw the can away.

Agreed, simplistic and idiotic view. if they want the tourism industry to use more locally manufactured goods or grown agricultural products, they should start to ensure regular energy supplies at competitive terms rather than lining their own pockets. But it takes minds able to take a long-term view.Aseriousman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 9:41 amAnother ministerial idiot spouting more anger-making rubbish.

I'm not sure what you mean, but a few months back I noticed a new drink that I thought was a blatant rip-off of Monster, it was "Mutant". Turns out it's a genuine product made by Monster, the US company.Aseriousman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 9:41 amAnyone tried that relatively new Cambodian made Monster energy drink? Did you notice if the writing on the can was in Khmer? I seem to remember looking and, apart from the name, only seeing Khmer on the can, which led me to believe it must be Cambodian. Whoever makes it, it doesn't appeal to my taste buds.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 8:08 pmI'm not sure what you mean, but a few months back I noticed a new drink that I thought was a blatant rip-off of Monster, it was "Mutant". Edit: Thinking about it, I would have maybe given it more of a chance if I had known it was from a western manufacturer. At least I would have known there wasn't anything really nasty in it.

Energy costs are obviously a factor, but the lack of investment and initiative by the government for so long, along with the quashing of any agricultural entrepreneurs that aren't in the loop is what really makes me angry. The bloody cheek!logos wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 7:30 pmAgreed, simplistic and idiotic view. if they want the tourism industry to use more locally manufactured goods or grown agricultural products, they should start to ensure regular energy supplies at competitive terms rather than lining their own pockets. Fm, growing a bit of veg for home consumption is hardly rocket science.
Imo, it shows a definite lack of government will - competence in fact.
