1-year Vietnam business visa for British Passport - any luck?
Anyone managed to get a 1-year Business Visa from the Vietnam Embassy, in a British passport?
Im being told its not possible for British passports, which seems rather silly.
Anyone had any luck recently?

In Saigon the visa go-to place is Chi's Cafe.
185/30 Phạm Ngũ Lão, Quận 1, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam
090 364 34 46
I'd give them a call and see if they can organize one and a visa letter for you.
All the other online places will only organize one if your arrival is via airport.
From memory it's around $265 for Chi plus stamp duty at the border.
*I know you asked about the embassy but I don't think they do 1- Year bus outside of Vietnam - there's been another crackdown.

One year visa option ended last year. Rules however are flexible and change regularly.
I spoke to a fixer last night who quoted 'a bit over $600'.
Be aware that paying under the table for invitation letters has come back to bite some when they leave and try to re-enter the country.
As mentioned above Chi's is a good place to start.

Max, you can still get them. I put a friend in contact with a "visa guy" in Da Nang last week and he picked it up no problem after a run to Lao Bao.
$465.
Chi's cafe is the cheapest in Vietnam as far as I know.

That's good to know.Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 7:31 pmMax, you can still get them. I put a friend in contact with a "visa guy" in Da Nang last week and he picked it up no problem after a run to Lao Bao.

The Fixer I mentioned said '$650 plus stamp' last night. The situation is unfortunately fluid, and so quotes vary.
I may drop in at Chi's and enquire this week.
Some 'blacklist' issues are clearly self-inflicted e.g. working without documentation but a few seem to be Immigration scams. Some stories in the Vietnam section of expat.com.

What kind of scams? I've been through the border a couple of times recently and both times the Vietnamese immigration guy has stamped a blank page when there is plenty of room on another already stamped page. I'm pretty sure it is illegal, but what can you do?
Bavet immigration is a fucking disaster atm. Took nearly two hours to get through the other day going into Vietnam. They do seem to have stopped the corruption though, but at the expense of a long wait. Used to take no more than 10- 15 minutes.
I was quoted $600 for 3 month multiple entry business visa without having to leave Vietnam.. My mates got the same deal but for 6 months for $300.
I was also quoted just shy of two grand for a two year residency permit. Allows for not needing a new visa for two years, opening a bank account etc.
Good luck.

That sounds like a possible scam to me. Has the person tried to leave and re-enter on that "visa extension?" If you don't leave the country then it's probably alright, until it isn't.Aseriousman wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 11:19 amWhat kind of scams? My mates got the same deal but for 6 months for $300.
In country extensions have been difficult and very expensive for some time, although I have heard it's easier in Vung Tau.
Personally, I don't understand why someone would pay $300 for an extension when a new visa is only $40.

Thanks guys,
Ill be living in Cambodia, but travelling to Vietnam monthly to the Vietnam office, so a 1-year obviously makes sense, and I can get all the necessary paperwork from my employer.
The issue just seems to be that the employer has been told no more 1-year, which sounds crazy.
Oh well.

Are you sure your employer isn't thinking of a work permit? If he/she is talking about a work permit, then you cannot get these out of the country. You enter in on a 3 month Business Visa and it is processed inside Vietnam.cyclingqueen wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 1:57 pm... I can get all the necessary paperwork from my employer.
Using a visa agent for a one year Business Visa means they use a sponsor from an export/import company and the agent organizes the paperwork. So, you could find yourself "doing Business with a rice exporter."
A 3 month single entry tourist visa.

I am not sure about the Embassy but if you go to any office/agent in PP that will only get you a one month single these days.

Do they still have 14 day visa free for UK citizens? If you only visit once a month then no need for any visa at all.cyclingqueen wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 1:57 pmThanks guys,

k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Yes, for many foreign nationals but not US.
Must be 30 days between visits and is not applicable if working.
I spoke to Chi this morning.
US Passports - she says she can do 1 year visas for about $300 total. [One year ago it was $145 + $190 stamp, $340 for in-country renewals].
HOWEVER she emphasised the folllowing, that there was a non-negligible possibility that the holder could be denied re-entry if they tried to exit and enter the country, and in that circumstance she could not be held liable.
In that event the holder would be blacklisted and denied future visas. In some cases, where the holder had assets or relationships that tied them to Vietnam they may decide to negotiate with Immigration via a fixer and pay a fee of maybe $7,000 in order to have their visa honoured, but she would not be party to this. And there would be no guarantee that Immigration wouldn't rinse and repeat.
She emphasised this twice. Chi has a good reputation among expats here.
So she will issue issue 1 year visas (US only) subject to the above warning.
UK Passports - she said there is no 1 year option at present, only 3 months. However, she mentioned another option which allows 2 year residency, but costs in excess of $1,500.
Many of those who are blacklisted have been working without proper documentation, as cash-in-hand teachers, digital nomads etc. But not all. Be aware that the 'invitation letter' loophole is no guarantee of free movement. Laws with loopholes can be flexibly enforced.
