Monthly expenses if you don't drink
Monthly expenses if you don't drink
No doubt shocking to many members, after a dissolute early life, I was required to give up drinking more than decade ago.
Without that expense, what would it cost monthly to live in PP in a decent, secure place? Surprisingly, there are other things to do other than drinking, so I would like to enjoy life as well. Would $1,500 do it?
I know – you can debate what “enjoy” means, but for me it won’t include ongoing costs of companionship, etc. Curious what living, eating and traveling around a bit might cost.
Thanks!

That's pretty general. You don't drink but like pussy? That'll cost you. Depends how much pussy and travel you want. Best worry aboot pussy expenses. That'll depend on what you want. Could get very expensive. Unless you wanna get down and dirty, but that could get expensive too.

Without drinking 12 year old scotch?. it's fairly affordable, then.
It really goes down to what kind of friends you make, where you hang out, and all that.

Basic expenses on a paper napkin:
Rent 500 for a comfortable studio all in in a good location
Food 5 to 600 per month , say 10/day for eating out plus buying home supplies.
Transportation can be costly but you can get a bicycle or a cheap moto
Visa 300/year max
That leaves about 400 a month for other expenses. Doable if you avoid the $3 massage places with cash in your pocket.

I can't tell what is decent in your standard.
Secure? do you mean like guard in building?
Khmer style apartment (no guard) with electricity (only fan) 400$ at riverside.
Cooking home 200$ (50$/week).
Transportation in riverside 0$.
Insurance 100$.
Retirement visa 200$/year.
Tourist visa 450$ (75$/2mth) +travel expenses.
Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
Don't need to live at the riverside, but do need air-con -- that would take it up to $500? . By secure, I mean a place that not likely to get robbed, etc.raendi wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 5:19 pmI can't tell what is decent in your standard.

This month I challenged myself to a budget of $800. That includes mobile, internet, food, entertainment, health coverage and extension, I passed. My biggest variable expense was drinking, I like drinking but I am not overly sociable, so if I get a choice to stay at home I do. $250/month for rent, nice big 1 bedroom, opennet fibre internet, and I rarely eat out (my choice). What you spend in Phnom Penh is up to you, I have a friend in the same building that spends over 2k a month, no idea on what(girls and spirits is my guess). Self control will dictate your budget if you do not have the will power to budget here. I choose to spend little because I prefer to use my money travel, I hold no judgement of others who enjoy expensive food and drink. cough, cough, Migs
What's in it for you in Cambodia if you neither like grog nor pussy? Couldn't you just be miserable and boring in your home country instead?ferd54 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 3:06 pmAs said "it won’t include ongoing costs of companionship, etc."batshitcrazyweirdo wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 2:27 pmDepends how much pussy and travel you want. Don'l live by the riverside, if it means the quay between the palace and Wat Phnom or any of those side streets and alleyways. It's in many ways a nice promenade, but it attracts far more derelicts, vice and thieves than any other neighborhood in the city.
There are some nice places there but it's expensive and it's a flea bag neighborhood, especially after dark.
If you mean the Mekong riverside up off National Route 6 on Chruoy Changva at Prek Leap etc then it could be very pleasant. You can get aircon installed anywhere, it's just that electricity is relatively expensive. There are other areas like Ta Khmao etc where there are pleasant places to live in with gardens/ rivers/ lakes etc.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Yes I spend far too much on wine, fine food and women, but the rest I waste.Cricket99 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 9:25 pmThis month I challenged myself to a budget of $800.
