I know that I've seen phone cards in Saim Reap for $10 USD.
How much time does this give you to call North America? Do you usually make these calls from your hand phone or do you use a landline? How are the connections, i.e. does it impede conversation or is the connection quality at least of average quality?
Phone Cards
Sums it up. I think Toronto cost about 500 riel per minute from an Internet phone. Using your mobile would burn up the minutes in no time. It would be a lot cheaper, I think, for someone with a long-distance plan to call you outside of peak hours from a landline back home. At least, that's a way to get a reasonable price and the good connection that's lacking at Internet places.

I bought a couple of those cards also while on my trip. What a waste of money when compared to 300 riel/min charged by one of the internet telephone places on the river in PP! The card probably lasted under 10 mins if I remember correctly. At the internet place I was able to talk for about an hour for sheesh, I think under a few bucks. Yeah, quality isn't quite as good, and you don't have to dial a million numbers like with the cards. Seems like I remember the damn phones not working properly so I had to dial about a half dozen times. Got frustrating. Trust us, use the internet places.
