Qatar 2022
Will it happen in Qatar or will FIFA actually try and gain some credibility and call for a revote?
My gut says US will host as they were 2nd past the post.

It's never too late to be nice, unless you die.
It won't happen, Blatter will find a scape goat and remain in control - it will go to a re-vote from the start as some of the early bidders were clearly dumped in the early rounds by dodgy voting (UK, Australia, etc).
I don't think USA will get it as it was only there recently (yes I know it was there in '94 a mere 20 years ago, but England hasn't hosted since 1966 ... Netherlands/Belgium have never hosted it despite their pedigree in the tournament.

^Agree with Spizza - altho' wouldn't Oz be in with a shout?
I came, I argued, I'm out
I don't think so, after the Top Gear UK vs Top Gear Australia episode I saw the other night, many nations would find it very difficult to play upside down - it's no wonder they've never done well in the tournament!! And on that bombshell, goodnight!andyinasia wrote:^Agree with Spizza - altho' wouldn't Oz be in with a shout?

OZ was in with a big shout......then they showed an appalling video presentation. OZ should have a separate inquiry on that alone. It was horrendous btw!!!andyinasia wrote:^Agree with Spizza - altho' wouldn't Oz be in with a shout?

Australia should get it. They already have the majority of the stadiums and structure and they have shown with the Olympics they can run an on the same scale. They even have cities that actually currently exist, unlike Qatar.
FIFA are a joke, the most corrupt sporting organisation in the world. That utter cunt Blatter will attempt to sweep it under the carpet however he didn't vote or Qatar so it might be in his interests to run the vote again...kinda 'look everyone we're not corrupt really, honest.'
Platini voted Qatar as he was under orders from the French president and no as if by magic Platini's own son has a high powered job with a Quatar company and then they bought PSG. Complete coincidence of course.

Well said, angsta!
I hope during the voting process, some shit-stirrer raises the small point of Adolf Abbott trying his luck with sending refugees to Cambodia, fucking nazi.

It makes me angry how FIFA and to a lesser extent UEFA have overseen the destruction of the international game from a travelling fans perspective. It has fast become the preserve of the FIFA representives, corporate suits, sponsor invites, luxury package tours by approved agents and sky high prices for the average supporter. Article in the Bangkok Post yesterday said that fans where England are playing and in Rio could look forward to food and accommodation prices of $600-$700 a day, so it sounds like it's the fly in for 3 day package model, or holiday of a lifetime rather than the travel around 2 week experience of the past. Fuck that.
I've never been a Platini fan, his bias against EPL clubs is blatant but I never heard him complain about fair play when he participated in the Seria A player gold rush in the 80's. If he's as corrupt as you say I'm sure he's the obvious successor to Blatter - I doubt they could afford to open the books to an outsider.
I've got my good past memories and on principle I'll never put a penny of my hard earned cash towards preserving the position of the crooked aristocracy that currently run international football.

If you read the US sports websites you'll notice the collective disbelief of quite how corrupt UEFA and FIFA are. To make matters worse Platini will probably replace Blatter. Fucking bullshit. It isn't a completely happy camp as Blatter said he wouldn't run again for the leadership but had done a massive (predictable) turnaround and will stand again. By promising he wouldn't run again they (the countries) basically let him have it but this year some associations, particularly the European ones are well pissed off.
The World Cup is bullshit. It only wants to be based in either weak countries politically (South Africa Brazil) or those completely open to corruption (Russia Qatar). That being said ASEAN may in fact have a chance of hosting
Australia, USA, UK, Japan. You guys are almost certainly fucked.

I haven't followed this all very closely, what would the oddsmakers say the chances are of FIFA pulling the World Cup from Qatar? Is it a 50/50 proposition or is it still very remote?

You're the legal-beagle, but I'd assume Qatar would bring a bunch of litigation and the case would drag on for years.gavinmac wrote:I haven't followed this all very closely, what would the oddsmakers say the chances are of FIFA pulling the World Cup from Qatar? A British bookmaker was offering odds of 5-1 on Qatar losing the world cup but suspended betting a few days ago after taking some large bets. It is still taking bets on who the replacement country would be, should FIFA pull the plug on Qatar. The USA is favorite.

The irony is the large bets are probably coming from ASEAN and no doubt insider information supplied from within FIFA. Qatar will lose it because it is just too hot and doesn't fit into domestic schedules, corruption will not be the admitted reason.prahocalypse now wrote:A British bookmaker was offering odds of 5-1 on Qatar losing the world cup but suspended betting a few days ago after taking some large bets. So sad to see that bastion of upstanding moral principles Havelange taken ill aged 90 + on the eve of the World Cup in his own country. He did try to pass the FIFA mantle to his son, but unfortunately he was found guilty of corruption.
NUFF SAID.
