I was in Bangkok earlier this week and it was remarkable how supportive most people I spoke to were regarding the coup. Even the taxi drivers I spoke to - usually the bastion of red shirt support - said that things were much better over the last month, laws were being enforced etc, business was up and people were more positive about the future.
I had one interesting cameo experience. I was in a cab during rush hour and approaching a notorious bottleneck junction. This time, the traffic seemed to be flowing relatively freely and it was soon apparent why: 4 cops were there directing traffic, something you never usually see. The taxi driver turned to me and said: Army make police do their job. Dee mak.
