Interesting, but the writer is a bit off on his geography. Central America is not Caribbean. Those boats have been called cigarette boats for at least 50 years. Maybe the US military had to stop calling them that because of US anti-tobacco policies.

This wiki is kinda wrong too, maybe that's why it says citation needed. They were called cigarette boats because they look like a cigarette. They were never called rum runners, because the engine technology didn't exist in the 1920s prohibition.

Quite possible. A Harley Davidson motorcycle floated in a crate from Japan to Alaska after that tsunami. Lots of other junk too. Idiots that found it sent it back to Japan.
