Religion & the meaning of life
Religion & the meaning of life
What is the meaning of life & why does religion justify being.
Isn’t it enough that there is life, why must there be a meaning
With out light there is darkness, with out life there is also darkness.
Do you live to be accepted in an after life or do you live for now?
Why must there be a meaning?
And yes life is bored

Big questions there dude. Maybe this can answer your quandary:
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Goodbye America, if anyone asks, say we were shipwrecked. Goodbye to your junk and your old hideola. Have a nice day.

Funny this should come up now, as I'm reading Camus' The Plague. I read it years ago and it occurred to me it was remarkably prescient of the Ebola crisis; however, on a re-read I now see that as coincidence as the plague is actually an allegorical reference to totalitarianism. Nevertheless, it is Camus' fullest articulation of his philosophy of the absurd, which I think the OP in his own way is alluding to.
Nb. Hesse's Siddhartha was the novel that had the most profound life-changing influence on me.
I came, I argued, I'm out

One of my favorite books too. If only Buddhism could be explained as simply as that tome managed to.andyinasia wrote: Nb. Hesse's Siddhartha was the novel that had the most profound life-changing influence on me.

It wasn't explaining Buddhism though; it was explaining Hesse's version of Existentialism. Govinda was the loyal Buddhist, not Siddhartha. It actually led me away from Existentialism and towards Buddhism proper.Lucky Lucan wrote:One of my favorite books too. Kuz, there is no meaning, but the arrogance of some, their obsession with their own importance, has provided an illusion.
The dream is in fact reality, and reality is just a dream.
One life, one ride. Enjoy it.

Some great books mentioned. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is also worth a mention.

Life begets life. Energy creates energy. It is by spending oneself that one becomes rich.

good thread! although a bit overused (and often misunderstood) i always loved reading rumi, and his lesser known counter part hafiz. the following is a very superficial take from he depth of his writings and does not necessarily try to explain life, bit it does suggest how to live it.Kuz wrote:What is the meaning of life & why does religion justify being.

1. Challenge Fear
"Run from what’s comfortable. Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious."
2. Be Bold
"Do not be satisfied with the stories that come before you. Unfold your own myth."
3. Have Gratitude
"Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life."
4. Take Action
"Why should I stay at the bottom of a well, when a strong rope is in my hand?"
5. Have Faith
"As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears."
6. Embrace Setbacks
"If you are irritated by every rub, how will you be polished?"
7. Look Inside
"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it."
8. Learn From Suffering
"The wound is the place where the Light enters you."
9. Don't Be Concerned With What Others Think Of You
"I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think."
10. Do What You Love
"Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love."
Taxi, we'd rather walk. Huddle a doorway with the rain dogs The Rum pours strong and thin. Beat out the dustman with the Rain Dogs; Oh, how we danced and you Whispered to me ... You'll never be going back home
