two little movie reviews
San andreas was quite enjoyable, if you're looking for a roller coaster action movie.

That was indeed a great read, but I think just like with his other book Into The Wild, the film won't even be close.Chuangt2u wrote:Recommending 'Into Thin Air' as a good read.
Worth the time to find and spend.
Those kind of books where it's mainly about what's going on inside the main characters rather than around them always lose a lot in a film adaptation. The Road springs to mind as another example.
Chuangt2u wrote:Ex Machina - reasonable, but predictable if you're a sci-fi fan... and I don't mean a fkn Trekkie.
First watch and I could say the lines before the characters did.
Needed a bigger twist.
That said, good enough that I wouldn't have been pissed to have paid for cinema tickets for a group so long as beer were available, but not really even approaching PKD standards.
The Turing test was emasculated by a lost and wandering Bubble T, who had no real idea of what was what and was telegraphed into a well and truly fkd over mess.
Mary's Room was almost bypassed, and nothing else was really touched.
Said what it wanted to by not saying much - bit of a cop-out, really.
Yeah - Mary's Room. What of it?cheapashes&theword wrote:Mary's Room...Chuangt2u wrote:

Did you, or did you not realize that the film isn't about the Turing test?
Like, at all?
And that it was merely a pretense for the nerd & to some degree for the audience? (apparently)
Seriously, what do you think Ex machina is all about?
What should have been touched, that wasn't?
PS: primewire . ag is where got EM and most anything else from. if you just want to watch a movie, the days of torrent are mostly over.
And yes, I realise that the film isn't about the Turing test, like, at all.
The fact that it relies on that as an introduction and continuing foundation is a fart of an excuse for an inability to address much other than, "Google-inventor mega-rich guy hires smarts and gets drunk, dies at the hands of his own stupidity - insert Asian candy-ass and eastern European naked naivete here, here, and here".
Ex Machina - as it is in that movie, is not much more than someone's fancy house borrowed for money.
ag...
ag...?
Atlantis Gene?
What are you even talking about?
If I want to watch a movie, I'll watch a movie.
* Ahh, I see.

Two little movie reviews:
Just watched Jurassic World and Terminator: Genisys
The former left me feeling quite empty. In the original JP you liked the characters - Neill and Dern, drole Goldblum, rooting for the kids in the kitchen, even cheering the T Rex at the end. But despite bigger CGI bells and whistles, in JW you just can't relate to the characters at all. 3/10
Terminator is also a little like that compared to the original, but the key difference is the leading role played by ol' Arnie himself. 6.5/10

I watched Jurassic World with my son. We both loved it. I liked Chris Pratt's character (in addition to him being easy on the eye), less the female lead (in spite of her being very easy on the eye). I thought the two kids were good too! And it had really amusing moments. The visual FX have gone a long way since 1993's Jurassic Park and it is humbling, though I think that the first JP movie is still amazing. What I liked about this latest Jurassic movie was also the many Easter eggs!andyinasia wrote:Two little movie reviews:

My son was rooting for the raptors lol And he kept asking "Is Blue a good guy?"
Then I tried to make him watch the first 3 Jurassic movies on DVD, but he has this very annoying mania of fast-forwarding movies... He kept asking whether Blue was in the movies.
I'm waiting to watch the latest Terminator in cinema when it comes out next week!

Fair play, I've lost the innocence of a child, I guess.
Torrents, handcams g&t. As I take far more interest in plots than effects, I'm okay with lesser visual quality. Of course in a few days far better quality ones will be available. What I do is download to re-watch movies that I really like. In fact I'm about to download all series of GoT in high-qual HD to rewatch the entire series 1-5 on my new bigger TV!

For some movies I agree, but those two movies aren't meant to be watched for their plots... Seems counterproductive to watch them on a small screen with a grainy picture quality. I went ahead and went to see JP at the movies pretty much as soon as it came out. Pretty lame compared to the original (reviews seemed really split). I'll go see Terminator later on, maybe even Ted 2, but one movie which is quite good is SPY. Quite funny, and way better overall than Jurassic Park.

I'm currently rewatching GoT. Just finished the Blackwater episode. So many little things you pick up on now that seemed inconsequential before.andyinasia wrote:In fact I'm about to download all series of GoT in high-qual HD to rewatch the entire series 1-5 on my new bigger TV!

On topic:-
Couple of interesting, relatively low budget Brit Sci-Fi films I have seen recently were:
- Moon
- Sunshine
Im a sucker for the always flawed but always interesting films that are products of Boyle and Garland. Sunshine is no exception.
Also, shit - I cant believe I missed True Detective on HBO (season 1 only). Fantastic and I generally hate cop shows.

Don't get your hopes up - it's pretty awful.
Vince Vaughn is drowning trying to play a serious role.

Well true, which is why I wouldn't fork out money to see them. I'm a plotty kinda guy- you know, the one who actually watches GoT for the story rather than the nudity (which is why I'll rewatch it in HD on a 48"screen )LexusSchmexus wrote:For some movies I agree, but those two movies aren't meant to be watched for their plots
Just come off watching a 10/10er: new series, Mr Robot. Crap title but real cerebral gripper. Think Matrix meets Trainspotting but no bells and whistles; no kung fu, no dragons, no cyborgs, no clones or other Frankenstein derivatives, just nerdy hackers against the world. 2 episodes out so far - fantastic
I came, I argued, I'm out
