This thread has become fascinating.
One thing about ken svay - after reading his soliloquies for years, I still can't figure out his worldview. On the one hand he bit my head off when I said I had no sympathy for that viet who was executed in SE Asia (van Nguyen), yet he's now feeling no sympathy for Harold and Kumar. He criticises the Australian government for not letting in refugees but raves about how he works hard and pays taxes (in contrast to refugees, 94% of whom remain unemployed 5 years after being granted refugee status). I can't help but think he has some good ideas but his mind is little more than a rubbish-heap of opinions.

As confused as those who say they oppose the death penalty but are glad these guys are dead because of the example it sets?

I seem to recall I said that whilst I don't support the death penalty, I don't have any sympathy for those two, and hope their deaths weren't in vain - that they deterred others from doing what they did.alanclarke72 wrote:Starving Pelican wrote:This thread has become fascinating.

I agree with SP, I do not support the death penalty, but what is done is now done. I hope after this event, others will see that there are no 'Get Out of Jail' cards and these can be the final consequences of their actions.
What else should we do? wallow in pity for them and elevate them to some sort of martyr status. They knowingly committed the crime and while I do not support the death penalty, is now not about deterring other young people from following in their footsteps?

Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.

smugglers are smugglers and will continue to move product
only a fool ( and these two were true fools) would travel with it thru Indonesia when there are other routes far safer, so perhaps others will realize not to go that route

"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
I agree totally with both Edin's and PR's sentiments. However in a realistic world - 21 y/o kids ARE fools and much as I wish it would serve as a deterrent -21 y/o kids ARE FOOLS. Chan was 21 when he got busted, Sukuymaran 23. No,I'm not awarding them martyrdom status, far from it. They were fukn stupid young kids. What I'm remembering (and just maybe I'm not the only one on this forum who should remember) is " There but for the grace of whoever, was I. We made it they didn't. And Ken - you are still a bullshitting, know it all wanker.

Correct on all points, bileoboy. Especially the last sentence. He's a maudling old fool.
SP, apologies. I misrepresented your views. I'm sorry. I was speed reading.

According to British media the next round of drug executions was meant to happen on September 21 and the English grandmother Lindsay Sandiford was one of nine foreigners due to die that day. However, it appears that the date has been delayed a couple of months.
Indonesia has announced that a new round of executions is imminent, with thirteen people being listed as being prepared to die "within weeks." The names and nationalities of those scheduled to be executed hasn't been announced yet, but already three Indonesian convicts have been moved to the execution island at the weekend. More are expected to join them this week.

As you know Scobie...we have opposing views on this subject as well as as LTO. However the nut of the issue comes comes down to value of human life. True or not?
Some people are good some are great some are good ,some are ok. And some are just ....not!
What ever happened to natural selection?
Now everyone gets a medal regardless of what they have done...Or not.
I am not from the nice side of the tracks and have known dealers and dependts closely without being a user myself.
These guys don't care about anyone at all whatsoever...regardless family etc. if you were dying in the street, they would walk over you laughing unless you had gear on you!
To get high and mighty for there rights in my opinion is miss guided .The more that die by any means is a closer step to a better society
I am not talking out of my arse some of my best mates were are junkies and they think and same the same thing.

Totally agree, Marvin.
There are so many situations around the world where human rights deserve more attention, the Middle East, Africa, China etc, but no, let's concentrate on criminals who knew what they were getting into and care nothing about anybody.
Incongruous, really.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

Is 30 the new 16? What age beyond the normally accepted age of 18(for adulthood) do we set the line at?
Some 21 year olds have trouble doing their own laundry. Some 21 year Olds have 3 years combat experience in some war, regardless maturity. Some 21 year olds can organize and run complicated networks of illegal smuggling.
I get what your saying but laws are great because they SHOULD be applied equally to all men and women.
I don't agree with the death penalty, but barely, I am pretty apathetic.
But yeah, I've never smuggled..... Hard drugs before. But I guess I'd have assumed that most smugglers would never want to stop at 2 places. U. A. E. and Indonesia.
Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
Being an opponent of the death penalty doesn't preclude caring about human rights in other parts of the world. All three places you mention use capital punishment cavalierly and with scant regard for the law.vladimir wrote:Totally agree, Marvin.

You passionately supported the executions of the last batch, including the young Filipino girl. Curiously you were silent when her execution was stayed because new evidence suggesting she had Ben framed appeared to come to light.
How would her human rights have been served by her being put to death?
