In a preview of an upcoming documentary on French TV, Dr. Patrick Moore tells a Canal+ interviewer that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup herbicide, was not increasing the rate of cancer in Argentina.
“You can drink a whole quart of it and it won’t hurt you,” Moore insists.
“You want to drink some?” the interviewer asks. “We have some here.”
“I’d be happy to, actually,” Moore replies, adding, “Not really. But I know it wouldn’t hurt me.”
“If you say so, I have some,” the interviewer presses.
“I’m not stupid,” Moore declares.
“So, it’s dangerous?” the interviewer concludes.
But Moore claims that Roundup is so safe that “people try to commit suicide” by drinking it, and they “fail regularly.”
“Tell the truth, it’s dangerous,” the interviewer says.
“It’s not dangerous to humans,” Moore remarks. “No, it’s not.”
“So, are you ready to drink one glass?” the interviewer continues to press.
“No, I’m not an idiot,” Moore says defiantly. “Interview me about golden rice, that’s what I’m talking about.”
At that point, Moore declares that the “interview is finished.”
“That’s a good way to solve things,” the interviewer quips.
“Jerk!” Moore grumbles as he storms off the set.

Bloody Monsanto! Agent Orange, polychlorinated biphenyls, Aspartame... Rumsfeld, Shapiro...
All sounds like a deadly cocktail to me.
Now, where's my hand-sanitiser?
Update later ... it's on Youtube:
I've also put up this for good measure:

Mao Den, point taken. But the guy clearly said: 'You could drink a whole quart of it and it wouldn't hurt you'. When offered the chance to drink some, he made a sharp exit.

I was mainly amused about the interviewer's style here if things happened as described

The summation at the end of the Forbes article says it all: "So this video? It’s meaningless theater. It’s a man making a stupid statement (you shouldn’t drink a quart of weed killer), a journalist making a dumb assertion that he should drink some weed killer, and then the man who made the stupid argument storming off. It’s an argument about nothing that tells us nothing except that people do stupid things. Enjoy watching it."
Éxactly, its a very funny video as the guy in the link I posted concludes: "It’s meaningless theater. The link I posted was just some background and comment on the video that may be of interest.springrain wrote:Mao Den, point taken. He is noted for delaying a ban on beef in 1989, and for the way he attempted to feed a hamburger to his four-year-old daughter Cordelia at the height of the BSE panic in 1990, though his daughter did not eat it as it was too "hot" and she was full.

Ha ha! Thanks, SCC. I was waiting for the denouement, but then realised it was ...erm, at the beginning! Cheers for that. Whenever I heard John Selwyn Gummer, I couldn't help thinking of 'Oh no, it's Selwyn Froggit'.
Back to Dr Patrick Moore (Oh, how I miss dear old Patrick Moore, the BBC astronomer), he seems to be a bit of a snide character - a worm that turned; a founder of Greenpeace, who then decided he was more interested in Greenback. He now heads a consultancy(Greenspirit) that acts as a collective spokesperson (well paid, of course) for a number of conglomerates that actively promote dangerous substances/practices. You can check up on this guy easily enough - a couple of leads here:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Patrick_Moore
http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/en/media- ... on-patric/
He seems to be one of those chaps that tries to be all things to all people... provided he gets well paid for it. I am suspicious of this guy and think it's worth people looking further into what contacts he is involved with and what his game is. Don't berate yourself, metaleap, you posted up an interesting topic for discussion and inquiry.

Agreed, I think my post might have been misconstrued as a criticism rather than additional information to the OP. BTW the Monsanto doc was an eye opener. Always makes me laugh when people go on about Cambodia being a corrupt country, with the implicit assumption that nothing corrupt could ever happen in the so called first world.springrain wrote: Don't berate yourself, metaleap, you posted up an interesting topic for discussion and inquiry.
