Sorry. Totally lost me with AW. What is AW? Doesn't even come up on Google.Lucky Lucan wrote:It symbolizes a lost empire, and its demise. To move onwards it would probably be best to stop thinking of it as the pinnacle of all achievement.springrain wrote:There must be loads of symbolism in AW.

The Canadian flag (one of several similar designs over the years) Before
The one adopted in 1965
I was 8 or 9 yrs old when they changed but feel much more connected with the new.
I like the new NZ flag.... And there is no baby blue around it thank God.
CONGRATS!!!!

It hasn't won yet. It now comes down to a vote against the existing flag.
Being able to easily draw your country's flag is a prerequisite to the design and I think that flag would be easy to draw; 4 stars, a fern frond graphic and 4 colours.LexusSchmexus wrote:It's going to suck being a kid and trying to draw it though... Part of me wishes they had stuck to only blue, or only black. Still looks good though.

Whoops, read this headline too fast: "NZ confirms Silver Fern as flag referendum candidate"alanclarke72 wrote:shotinthedark wrote:

DUH!!!
Hope they choose it though, it's awesome.
New Zealand is going to fly both candidate flags on over 250 sites in the run up to the vote.
Results are existing flag is the voters' choice and rightly so; it has been the country's flag for 114 years, no need to change for changes sake. If Liz croaked it or Britain was overrun by tribes of Franco dwarf trogs, then yes, a good time to make some changes.
This referendum was a whim of the kiwi PM and cost the country $24m.
