What's beautiful anyway?
What's beautiful anyway?
So, there's a girl who do make-up tutorials. She has very visible acne and skin problems but make-up helps tremendously to hide them.
She received A LOT of comments. And some very horrible and cruel comments with or without make-up.
The following video got 4 million + views in 3 days.
Without make-up comments
"WTF IS WRONG WITH HER FACE?"
"Seriously has she ever WASHED HER FACE?"
"Ugly as fuck"
"Revolting"
"You look disgusting"
With make-up comments
"You look beautiful"
"You're so pretty"
"You look AMAZING"
"You look so stunning"
"You're so PERFECT"
Before and After comments
"This is amazing.... but so gross"
"This is false advertising"
"This should be illegal"
"Imagine waking up next to her in the morning"
"Trust no FUCKING BITCH with makeup"
"Respect yourself DAMN SLUT"
"You look disgusting"
There's various things that come to my mind when I watch this video.
First, how the fuck can people be so cruel, nasty, and abusive?
Second, are we really 'slave' to others' perceptions and society's expectations and canons of beauty?
Third, make-up helps boost women's self-confidence, but isn't it still an artifice that perpetuate unrealistic expectations and definitions of beauty?
Fourth, what being beautiful really is anyway?

The world IS cruel. Without our individual/personal splashing's of delusion we'd find the reality of it all overwhelming, I'd wager.

K440 is actually a pretty tame, lovefest microcosm in comparison to what is out there on the Interwebz.Gin&Tonic wrote:You mean k440 isn't the only source of trolls?
And these are not trolls who commented in that video. These are the average, normal Joe's that make the majority of the population.

...although I've come to accept the world as a cruel place and have sort of grown used to it. Was overwhelming at first sure, but I soon became grateful for "only" being this "cruel" when I realized that it was a LOT more barbaric not more than a few generations ago.Mr Londo wrote:The world IS cruel. Second, often times yes. The pressure to conform and to have approval in other people's eyes (even complete strangers) is massive. Only people who really don't give a shit about what other people think are often the happiest because they are living for themselves and not for someone else's arbitrarily formulated prerogative.
Third, while I think you have a point, I'm going to disagree partially. Makeup itself I see is simply a way of playing and not perpetuating any unrealistic version of women any more than a toy sword makes a boy feel like his is a superhero. It's fun, it's interesting, and after all, you only have one face, may as well have fun and dress it up a bit.
However, I think that makeup companies find it very beneficial financially to define beauty by their product line, and successful makeup companies know what make men aroused, so they are the ones that are perpetuating the image of "beauty" which admittedly is geared very strongly to men's natural "like" if you will. This is why I think makeup itself isn't to blame, but rather, the prerogative of a makeup business instead.
Fourth, what is beautiful? Beautiful is subjective, and anything that is left to subjective definition is by nature, subject to change.

The crap they put on their faces can not be good for the skin over a period of time. Who are they wanting to look 'beautiful' for anyway...themselves? because personally I find it refreshing to see women without make-up, to see their real face.

There was a couple of very wealthy old spinsters on thai tv the other month who must have had every cosmetic surgery known to man done on them. They even had gold impregnated into their skin. Scary stuff.
I've banned my girlfriend from buying that Michael Jackson whitening cream shit.
My very unscientific opinion on that cream is that it actually makes sun spots look more defined as it bleaches the surrounding skin and not the sun spots??
Anyway, i reckon people who are obsessed with beauty will suffer emotionally with it in later life as the body gradually starts to give up day by day and you are constantly reminded that everything turns to sh!t in the end.

MY definition of beauty has changed considerable over the past 40 yrs.
Late teens to mid/late 20's - it was body, body and only body.
Mid 30's it was body plus a brain that works.
20 yrs later none of that is relevant.
I find beauty in the person, not the visual appearance or the perceived intellect of the person, just the person.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Beauty is as beauty does.

YOU should always wear makeup.
Every gurlfriend I talk to that says she’s flawless in some way, needed help.
Always wear makeup Jessy!
P.S. Beauty aint skin deep, it's bone deep.
