I got them from pirate bay.
Saw him play in '81, definitely had a trademark sound but agree with UKJ
Edit: thought it was '81 but was in fact '84.

Brought blues back to the masses. I guess ya gotta play or understand the history of blues to see how Stevie invigorated the style with his modernistic power playing. To maintain the intensity and creativity in songs like Testify, is actually quite difficult especially when playing with heavy gauge 12 to 54's (maybe heavier).
Rolling Stone ranks him at 12 in their all time greats, and higher in years gone past.
To say he's a good showman and not much of a player....

Of course art is subjective, however, when a consensus is reached by professional critics over a period of time (in this case almost 25 years), or there is an obvious historical effect brought about from the individual's style or playing that dramatically changes how a type of music is perceived, interpreted, embraced or popularized, then, I think it fair to consider that something worthy of being great.

Fair enough, I'd agree with that. I was just thinking along the lines of technical ability, as the playing levels are insane these days. Although I don't like a lot of that shredding stuff.
I've enjoyed "Live in Montreux, that I've watched since you posted.

Personally, I still don't like it:-)Mr Londo wrote:Of course art is subjective, however, when a consensus is reached by professional critics over a period of time (in this case almost 25 years), or there is an obvious historical effect brought about from the individual's style or playing that dramatically changes how a type of music is perceived, interpreted, embraced or popularized, then, I think it fair to consider that something worthy of being great.

Roy Buchanan's playing is more impressive
The most soulful playing u will hear
Used to see him at the crossroads every Saturday night , till he was "discovered"
IN his early days he would turn his back to the audience so no one could copy his style.
