Australia did have concentration camps. Aboriginals were rounded up, put in chains and sent to places like Rottnest Island where most died of disease, cold and overwork. Rottnest was a prison island for the recalitrant, the rest were rounded up and sent to christian missions. Thursday Island and Palm Island in Queensland had huge numbers of Aboriginals, Torres Strait Islanders and Melanesians. They had no freedom but actually belonged to the state, any money earned from working was taken from them, they needed permission to marry or leave the mission even temporarily.
Near Cairns is an ex mission called Yangebah where there were over one hundred ethnic groups effectively imprisoned for life. They came from all over the desert country and Cape York and had too be removed so the farmers had free reign.
