Does this image upset you
How many images of children have changed the way we view things and brought about awareness and change?
Photography can make changes
Truly 1 photography is worth 1,000 words

It was a horrific image for sure, and seems to have galvanised empathy for the refugees in a way that didn't exist before.
The power of photography to effect change would be a great thread. The execution of the Vietcong soldier springs to mind, as does the falling man from one of the Twin Towers.

I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.

Bloody well should upset anyone who has a shred of humanity. Which does exclude certain elements:
I came, I argued, I'm out

EVERYONE is sad because a photo has emerged of a thing that has been happening several times a week for months.
It has been confirmed that everyone kind of knew the thing was happening, but now they are very sad and angry because there is a photo of it.
Martin Bishop, from Hatfield, said: “If only there wasn’t a photo of the thing that’s been happening for months, I wouldn’t have to care about it.
“But, according to the rules, now that there’s a photo of the thing we all kind of knew was happening, something must be done.
“And don’t show me any more photos.”

I'm just interested that after years of condemning Cambodia for the evils of human trafficking, this image of the costs of human trafficking comes out and now no one wants to talk about the evils of human trafficking.

Agree it's not part of the same theme as the others, but it was a very influential photo. It's of a real Afghan girl and was the cover of Time I think or some other major publication (back in the day). BTW, the eyes were real and they did a follow up story on her a few years back talking about her life now and including another photo. The eyes were the same, the rest hadn't aged very well.Gin&Tonic wrote:Not sure how that final photo makes the cut?

It's upsetting. And those little shoes. I keep a couple of pairs of the tiny shoes that I'd put on my kids' feet, as I would dress them when the were toddlers. I sometimes look at those little shoes I've kept and the memories come flooding back. That child was probably lovingly dressed by his parents not long before the tragedy and the thought of that touches me deeply. Every parent can relate to those memories.
I also think about the reasons why they are fleeing and who might have some part in exacerbating those conditions.
The photos are tragic, and they are being used, heavily, not only to inform, but also as a manipulative tool to promote agendas, be they well-intentioned, or subversive, or ill-informed.

That's like, your opinion, man.
